Here come the Brit boys. Jack Laugher and Chris Mears stand on the 3m springboard, the former counting them in. One, two, three... A few seconds later they have made a perfect start. A wonderfully-executed back dive, a routine opener, earns a mark of 52.80.

That puts them level alongside Germany and Italy in the early stages.

The BBC radio 5 live crew are ready, the gymnasts are ready. Let's go. BBC gymnastics expert Craig Heap predicts Nile Wilson could be the dark horse in this men's all-around final.

While we wait for Sally Conway to take the mat, I can remind you that there are finals in both gymnastics and diving under way. There is British interest in both.

You cannot wipe the smile from his face. He cannot wait to get onto the podium.

He jumps onto the podium and that smile is ever present.

The moment that every athlete dreams of.

"Representing Great Britain. The gold medalist and Olympic champion..." Huge smile from Joe Clarke, wider than the Trent and Mersey Canal. He leaps on to the podium and punches the air, grinning all the way through the national anthem. Incredible moment.

We're waiting for Sally Conway to take the judo mat. The 29-year-old from Edinburgh will take on Colmbian Yuri Alvear, a three-time world champion. If she wins, she's guaranteed a medal. There is out bout before Conway is up...

Pool gate continues into a second day... There appears to have been no improvement in the diving pool, while the one next to it - crystal clear on Tuesday - is a little off colour today. Organisers said earlier the cause was high alkaline levels and that the diving pool would be at full health at some point this afternoon. There was no mention of both pools looking a little peaky. The rain is heavy too, which won't help matters.

World bronze medallists Jack Laugher and Chris Mears will go in the 3m men's synchronised springboard final, which is starting at 20:00.

With GB having already secured bronze in the men's 10m syncro on Monday through Tom Daley and Dan Goodfellow, could 3m diving success be next?

If you missed the dive that won bronze, here it is...

So what could be a medal-laden evening for Great Britain begins with a gold (yes, gold) for Joe Clarke and a bronze for Steven Scott. But that's only the start. With barely a second to drink it all in, GB is going in finals in gymnastics and diving, and semi in judo.

So Great Britain has a second gold to go with the swimming success of Adam Peaty (I won't bang on about it, but Staffordshire has them both). By my reckoning that puts GB ninth in the medal table.

Ali Mason: That was awesome. Nothing more enjoyable than watching an athlete bring out the race of their life at the biggest stage.

Jimwillshaw: Last time Yorkshire, this time Staffordshire. Peaty & Clarke (so far). Come on #TeamGB.

Incredible, incredible stuff. Joe Clarke is still on the water, waving to the flag-waving British fans, then throwing his head back to drink in the moment. He spreads his arms wide in celebration under the grey Rio sky. The 23-year-old is the Olympic champion.

Never heard of Joe Clarke? You're probably not alone. Expect to learn a lot about him in the coming hours and days.

For Joe to come out here on the biggest platform and perform is phenomenal. He should be so proud. He and his team have worked for hours on this course in preparation and he must be delighted. What a talented paddler.

Gold medal! Gold for Joe Clarke! Gold for Great Britain! He is the Olympic champion in the men's K1 canoe, finishing 0.17 seconds ahead of Slovakia's Peter Kauzer. Jiri Prskavec takes bronze. Grigar, who looked set to snatch gold from Clarke, finished poorly and ends way down.
