The rugby is under way, but there's time to bring you news of British progress in the shooting. Both Tim Kneale and Steven Scott have reached the semi-finals of the men's double trap. They will line-up in a six-man field from 19:00.

I say we need to be ready for Joe Clarke, but he's not actually scheduled to be down the course until 18:09. That gives us plenty of time for hockey and rugby sevens. Fiji and the USA have just taken to the field. Are you watching, New Zealand?

    Great Britain v Argentina - 17:30 BST

Having made a 100% start to proceedings in Rio, Great Britain's women are about to face their toughest test of the Games so far.

Victories over Australia and India - the lowest ranked team competing in Rio - leave them top of Pool B as they now take on world number two Argentina.

Joe Clarke is about to start his semi-final run as he looks to ensure he will be competing in the final later this evening.

It has been far from straightforward so far for the 23-year-old who picked up a controversial 50-second penalty for missing gate 14 in his first heat.

After the disappointment of GB's David Florence in the men's canoe slalom final on Tuesday, Clarke will be hoping to be in contention for a medal.

In fact, it's set to be a pretty busy time for the next hour or so. At 17:30, Great Britain's women's hockey team go against Argentina. At the same time, Joe Clark will look for a place in the final of the K1 canoeing. Stand by your beds.

A nice moment at the end of the rugby sevens as the teams of Argentina and Brazil share a photo together. Argentina's win guarantees their place in the last eight. Now, if the USA beat Fiji, or avoid a four-point defeat, the All Blacks go out.

Geraint Thomas speaking to BBC TV after he finished ninth in the men's road race, following his last minute inclusion in the event:

"I was eating at McDonalds with the road boys on Sunday, but Usain Bolt eats McDonalds, so why not?

"I got stuck in but it wasn't my day today. The disappointment of my road race crash overwhelms everything else, but it's an amazing experience to represent Team GB at the Olympics.

"I can be proud that we gave it everything."

That match between Fiji and the US is up next and will be the final game of the pool stage. It will also determine who Great Britain play in their quarter-final, with the last-eight ties coming from 21:00 this evening.

I think it's fair to say three wins from three is better than many expected of Team GB sevens.

As a squad they only got together in late May. Yes, their warm up events were encouraging but it's still very little preparation time.

Suddenly people are maybe thinking medal.

Anyway, we have a real rivalry to focus on now. Duck for cover. This is the best atmosphere we have had at sevens all week without doubt.

But, at this precise moment, I'm keeping an eye on the rugby sevens. After New Zealand's defeat by GB, their hopes of reaching the last eight hang by a thread. Once Argentina defeat Brazil (they are currently 19-0 up), the All Blacks can only get through if their points difference is better than the USA. If America beat Fiji, the All Blacks go out.

As well as that, Andy Murray and Johanna Konta will continue in the tennis, there's a GB rugby sevens quarter-final to look forward to and, a little later, a rather tasty basketball clash between the USA and Australia.

And it looks set to be a busy one.

After Chris Froome added to Great Britain's medal tally with bronze in the time trial, GB have more opportunities for success in judo, shooting, canoeing, diving and gymnastics.

That's before we even think about the swimming pool.

If you ask people in any other sport how long you can maintain peak form for, you're probably going to get an answer of a couple of weeks.

To come to Rio and win this time trial after the exertions of the Tour de France, you're asking for top form for more like two months.

It was a good course for Chris Froome today, but he can be happy with a bronze in my opinion.

Geraint Thomas was thrown in at the last minute, and he can be proud of his performance. He got stuck in.

Blur's Song 2 plays out - "woo hoo" - as Dan Bibby launches into touch to ensure British victory. A huge win against one of the fancies and no other side is three for three in these pools.

Media rounds now, I hear Bibby speak of "staying calm" as the quarters arrive.

A side note, a tie coming up between Fiji and USA could see New Zealand eliminated.
