Met GB sailor Nick Thompson's fiance, Olivia, and her family down here on Flamengo beach yesterday. They are known as 'Team Thompson'.

The Jaggers, who also comprise dad Graham, mum Christine and sister Chloe were proudly sporting their home-made T-shirts and insisted that double Laser world champion Thompson could turn things around after he finished 12th overall after four races.

And they were right. Thompson finished second in the first race of the day, which will move him up the field.

    That was a mature performance.

Clarke looked nervous at the top but built on it.

He was strong, tight and used the water very nicely and at the bottom he made sure he was through the gates, taking no risks and it was an excellent run.

So, Joe Clarke's passage to the K1 final means Great Britain will be going for no fewer than five medals over the next few hours - that's before we even think about swimming in the wee small hours.
