It is all being turned on its' head.

Great Britain are yet to make an inroads on the race. They have drifted out to almost three seconds off the pace.

They will need some serious lactic meltdowns in the boats ahead of them.

Despite winning the European title in May, the GB women's eights have had a trying season where at one point double scullers Katherine Grainger and Vicky Thornley tried to pinch a place in their boat.

But spare a thought for Fran Houghton. She is competing in her fifth Olympics, and while she was testing to see if she was good enough to remain in the eights, she also lost her father to cancer.

She told BBC Sport: "The rowing helped me get through that tough time at home, but, in a way, my dad also helped me get through the challenging time in the rowing by keeping things in perspective. It made me realise I do really want to be here in Rio because I could have made the choice to leave the sport.

"I knew that's what he wanted me to do. He's come to every Olympics, but now he will have the best view and be able to see it all, and that's wonderful."

If you're a football fan, this stadium is home to Botafogo. I'm not sure what state the pitch will be in soon after a deluge of javelin and shot and discus punishment but hey, we've got to have our fun for a few days right?

This crowd looks better than that of yesterday. Some guy called Usain Bolt is running soon. Maybe that has something to do with it.

At ease people, 'soon' is relative. 16:00 BST is the start of the men's 100m first round.

Gold medal winner Mahe Drysdale on BBC One: "It was painful. I got a good lead and thought I was comfortable but he started to close me down and I had to pull a sprint out. It was an agonising wait to the finish.

"I had no idea (if I'd won). I didn't even look I just knew I had to cross the line.

"If they can't separate us maybe there is a case for both of us getting gold medals."

    Tie

My eyes must be deceiving me! Having walked down towards the finish for the final of the men's single sculls, which was probably the best race we have seen all week, I thought Croatia's Damir Martin had taken that.

Not many races get decided by millimetres but New Zealand's Mahe Drysdale defends his Olympic crown by the narrowest of margins.

Damir Martin and Mahe Drysdale are the Olympic Champions...

    We have a dead heat

Martin looked like he was going to steal title off Mahe Drysdale.

Well that is an unexpected result in the men's single sculls.

    Track Cycling

    Sir Chris Hoy
Six-time Olympic cycling champion on BBC One

Jason Kenny had so much spare in the tank. He is showing he has so much confidence. You try to get through without wasting too much energy and that's what Jason has done.

It wasn't as close as it looked for Callum Skinner. He didn't panic and you could see the pace he had from the last corner.
