More from Jack Burnell after his disqualification: "Apparently I was disqualified two metres from the end.

"I felt a hand on my leg and it stops me dead, I took a few more strokes and he is still on my foot.

"Words can't describe it. So much brutal hard work has gone into it and it is ruined by a couple of judges.

"We are going to put an appeal in but it will do absolutely nothing. They probably will just dismiss it.

"This is the grandest stage of all and it is ruined by a couple of judges."

GB's Laugher rises to 10th place with third dive

GB's Jack Laugher fails to make a splash with his third dive as he falls to tenth place at the halfway stage with a score of 81.60

Update: He has just posted an extremely low 39.90 on his fifth, leaving him down in 11th place...

Top 12 go through. It's going to be a tense last round of diving.

"The whole is thing a joke"published at 15:30 British Summer Time 16 August 2016

More from Jack Burnell: "The whole is thing a joke. I was disqualified two metres from the finish.

"My first yellow was coming down the straight back here and I was second, no one was either side of me and he pulls out a yellow card.

"I couldn't have physically touched anyone and I got a yellow card.

"I shook my head at the guy. This meant to be the pinnacle of our sport and there are referees who haven't a clue what they are doing."

Jack Burnell speaking to BBC TV: "The one thing that ruins the competition is the referees. There are about 600 boats out there, that are not needed and every person on the boat has no idea what they are doing giving out cards left, right and centre for nothing."

Laura Trott still leads in the omnium. Can anyone stop her from retaining her Olympic title? It seems unlikely.

Most of the British riders have packed up and left, this session is almost done. Becky James and Katy Marchant stuffed their kit into their rucksacks, put their cycle helmets back on and cycled out of here. What other mode of transport would they use?

Chaos on Copacabana as Dutch fans and coaching staff go wild when they think Ferry Weertman has crossed the line first, but then quickly curtail their celebrations as they wait for the photo finish to be confirmed.

Turns out their instincts were right. The winner's coach Marcel Wouda is the happiest man in Rio as the Netherlands make it a marathon swimming double gold after Sharon van Rouwendaal's victory in the women's event yesterday.

    Laura Trott

Laura Trott clocks in at 35.253 - the second fastest time of the field behind Australia's Annette Edmondson - in the time-trial element of the omnium.

That extends her lead over Belgium's Jolien D'Hoore to 12 points with two events to go. American Sarah Hammer is 16 points back.

    Still in her hands.

The result is finally in from the open water.

Netherlands Ferry Weertman is indeed the champion with Greece's Spiros Gianniotis in silver-medal position and Marc-Antoine Olivier, of France, third.

Plenty of confusion after a dramatic and close finish. Gianniotis was initially given the win before officials withdrew that as they studied the photo finish.

After a courageous swim, Jack Burrell of Great Britain has been disqualified, presumably for being a little too physical in the finish funnel.

The results aren't official yet but it looks like Dutchman Ferry Weertman has been given the win in the men's 10km race after the judges study a photo finish. Greece's Spiros Gianniotis is provisionally awarded silver and Marc-Antoine Olivier the bronze.

Great Britain's Jack Burnell was right in the mix in a thrilling finish and was fifth but now appears to have been disqualified.

Fellow American Will Claye took silver with a personal best jump of 17.76, while China's Bin Dong got the bronze with 17.58m.

Taylor jumped 18.21 in winning the world title last year but didn't threaten Jonathan Edwards' 1995 world record of 18.29 on this occasion.
