We haven't seen Helen back in the boat for five years. We all have - and continue to have - high hopes but... we also haven't seen the rest of the world for almost two years.

So, Helen and Polly came back to do the Europeans and they won it, which was impressive.

The big risks, the leading nations while Helen has been away have been the USA, Canada, New Zealand and Australia - they were all to come back in and what they have shown here at the global level is just how good they are.

They have a fight on their hands but this is the Olympics, they won't give the title up easily.

Two of Britain's three Olympic badminton medals have come in mixed doubles, and Team GB's hopes in 2021 rest with Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith.

Ellis, 31, and Smith, 29, are a couple off-court as well as on it - but their personal relationship began after their professional one.

They teamed up to represent England at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, and decided to carry on the partnership after winning a silver medal.

On-court success then developed into off-court romance for the couple who had known each other from a distance since they were teenagers.

Their match against French pair Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue is in its early stages.
