Dressage is one of those sports that gets your attention every four years, yet you instantly feel like an expert.

"Ooohhh, that was step out of place."

"The judges won't like that turn."

    "They lost control there."

  2. What's happened so far?published at 12:03 British Summer Time 28 July 2021

If you're only just getting round to catching up with all today's action in Tokyo, here's a reminder of what's happened so far...

What a way to start the morning this was as Team GB took gold in the men's 4x200m freestyle, narrowly missing out on the World Record.

Then it was silver for GB's men in the quadruple skulls final at the Sea Forest Waterway, who says second place doesn't mean anything?!

But it was heartbreak for GB in the coxless four as a steering issue caused the boat to narrowly miss a collision with the Italians and saw them miss out on a medal in an event GB have dominated for several years.

Over in the boxing GB's Karriss Artingstall emerged victorious from a split decision to progress to the semi-finals and guarantee herself no less than a bronze medal.

And in the men's side, Ben Whittaker progressed to the quarter-final.

A tough blow for the Rugby Sevens though as GB's men missed out on the bronze medal to Argentina - it hasn't been the most straight forward journey for this team, which ended in a 17-12 defeat.

Circa 1989 Adrian Moorhouse was booked to pay a visit to our school. We all excitedly posed for photos but it was only when the prints were sent home we realised this person in a GB shirt with a medal round his neck definitely wasn't AM. To this day we still have no idea who it was.

Britain's Charlotte Fry has just taken centre stage in the individual grand prix freestyle competition, but a score of 80.614 on Everdale will not be good enough for a medal as she's down in eighth.

Fellow Briton Carl Hester is in third on 81.818, with American Sabine Schut-Kery leading the way with a score of 84.3.

Britain's Charlotte Dujardin is yet to have her go.

Matthew Richards' parents have been speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live this morning.

Amanda and Simon were watching from home as 18-year-old Matthew won gold alongside Tom Dean, Duncan Scott and James Guy in the 4x200m freestyle relay.

"Not being there has made it seem almost other-worldly," said Amanda. "It really hasn't sunk in yet because you're watching something on television and you suddenly realise that's your child doing that!"

I think he will be absolutely amazed by that score, 81 at the Olympics on a young horse.

    Sailing

    Shirley Robertson
Two-time Olympic gold medallist on BBC Radio 5 Live

It has been such a full on day. Eight of the 10 disciplines have been in action and what a fabulous day for the British sailors. They have been so incredibly solid.

I started by watching the young Emma Wilson. She is 22 and she started first so she will finish in a couple days, but she is leading from the front and looking so strong. She is very impressive.

It is a tricky place to sail as it's right on the Pacific so it's wavy. The typhoon didn’t come here but it built the sea up. It's really dramatic, but the British sailors have really relished it.

I have to say when it comes to Carl Hester, he always makes an entrance on his way to the centre line.

Every freestyle I've ever watched of his, he's always gone straight into difficulty on the centre line. It is perfection.

He always rides a very good canter zig-zag.

Gold medal winning swimmer James Guy has already phoned his dad to plan his celebratory meal out.

The Bury swimmer was part of the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay team that claimed top spot at the Tokyo Aquatic Centre. Speaking to 5 Live’s Naga Munchetty, James’ dad Andy says the restaurant has already been booked.

“He’s already sent his order in, ‘Dad, we’re going out for an Indian.’ Because he’d never have that during training because it’d be way too heavy, so that’s a massive treat for him.

“He only has a korma, the mildest curry you could ever possibly have, but that’s what he’s looking forward to.”
