We're about 15 minutes away from the first of the women's 100m heats.

And that first heat will see GB's Dina Asher-Smith in action.

The 100m World Championship silver medallist and 200m champion is taking on the 100 and 200m double in Tokyo as she bids to become the first British woman to win an individual sprint gold at a Games.

While Rory McIlroy has not been able to win one of golf's four majors since 2014, he would certainly settle for claiming the Olympic title in Tokyo.

That's despite an apparent initial ambivalence from the Northern Irishman, who has moved up to tied fifth.

"I don't know what it will mean to win a medal because I grew up dreaming of Claret Jugs and Green Jackets," he told BBC Sport before the event.

"Maybe I can articulate it a little better if I am in possession of one on Sunday."

Representing Ireland, McIlroy started with a two-under 69 on Thursday but is now six under after two birdies and an eagle in his opening eight holes today.

Mexico's Carlos Ortiz currently tops the leaderboard, with overnight leader Sepp Straka dropping off the pace as he is two over today.

Great Britain's Paul Casey is four under after going through the opening five holes today level. Team-mate Tommy Fleetwood is two shots further back.

After opening with a win and a defeat in Pool A, Great Britain's women could not afford to slip up against Kenya if they were to move within touching distance of a quarter-final spot.

They didn't. Britain ran in five tries - two from Jasmine Joyce, with further scores from Megan Jones, Abi Burton and Lisa Thomson - and added three conversions in a 31-0 win.

That moves them to the top of the group, with New Zealand and the Russian Olympic Committee meeting next. Not sure when that will be, though - the match is delayed because of a storm at Tokyo Stadium.

The top two sides automatically move into the last eight, along with the two best third-placed teams.

'I've got to hold my head up high after that'published at 03:37 British Summer Time 30 July 2021

    Men's 200m individual medley - silver

    BBC Sport

Duncan Scott, speaking to BBC Sport: "Definitely (proud) and the fact that the winner did a big PB too. Credit to everyone in the race. It was always going to tight, and exciting.

"I had to try and commit a bit more to 150m, I know I'm going come back strong. I'm really happy with the swim - it just wasn't there. I've got to hold my head up high with that.

"Investment probably started with [Adam] Peaty in 2015 and the way he dominates racing probably rubs off on people, but also great teams of coaches."

No golds for GB "not a disaster" - Graingerpublished at 03:35 British Summer Time 30 July 2021

After the GB men's eight finished third in the final rowing event of the Tokyo Olympic Games regatta, James Cracknell and Garry Herbert suggested there would be a big inquiry into the fact the British boats have failed to win a gold medal for the first time since 1984.

Cracknell said: "Quick bit of reflection Garry, we got three golds, two silver in Rio, we come away from Tokyo, with £27m of investment in British Rowing, with one silver and one bronze."

"There will be a lot of reflection, a lot of questions to be asked," said Herbert.

Cracknell replied: "And when the national budget is under pressure from so many areas, is that a good return on investment?"

Dame Katherine Grainger, the chair of UK Sport, the body that decides the level of funding for Olympic sports, said on BBC TV: "There are questions asked after every regatta. These Games were going to be about change and this team is building towards Paris.

"Six fourth places are so close, but so far. It's not a disaster. We've been spoiled by rowing for so many Games but it takes a while to build and we will build again."

You feel there are more questions to be asked and answered though.

Natalie Lewis: A great swim from Duncan, sometimes you give it your all and someone is just slightly faster, so close to the gold but a brilliant silver medal. 3 medals for him, that's an amazing achievement

James Stevenson: Duncan Scott swam superbly. But he has to settle for silver. Hope he is pleased. But imagine he thought the gold was going to be his.
