The third member of the GB team, Tom McEwen, goes in tomorrow’s group.

  20. GB's best start continuespublished at 00:34 British Summer Time 30 July 2021

    Simon Gleave
Head of sports analysis, Nielsen Gracenote

After six days of Olympic competition in Tokyo, Great Britain has 18 medals including five golds. This beats the 16 medals (four golds) won at this stage five years ago in Rio. At London 2012, 15 medals were won in the first five days including five golds.Only London 1908 has produced more medals in the first six days of medals being awarded - but those six days were spread across April, May and July when the Games had a totally different format. In addition, Great Britain provided around a third of the 2,200 or so competitors.

In both 2012 and 2016, Great Britain had 22 medals at the end of the seventh day of medals so there is a fair chance that this year won't be the highest.
