Into the final downwind section and Charline Picon of France is into the lead but nice work from Emma Wilson, who sees a gap to get ahead of China and into second.

Great work but she needs to get in front of Picon to improve her current bronze-medal placing.

    Munoz -11 (17), McIlroy -11 (14), Ortiz -12 (13)

They're queuing up behind leader Xander Schauffele now.

Ireland's Rory McIlroy is two back after a birdie at 13, while Mexico's Carlos Ortiz also clawed a shot back on the American at the scoreable par four to move to 12 under par - just one stroke off the lead, alongside Japan's Hideki Matsuyama.

Colombia's Sebastian Munoz is another player trying to muscle in on top spot and has moved to 11 under par with three birdies on the back nine with one hole to play.

Past the halfway point of this race and Marta Maggetti leads for Italy but Emma Wilson is struggling to get out of that bronze-medal place.

Poland's Zofia Noceti-Klepacka is second in this medal race at the moment but that keeps her in the gold position overall.

A favourable breeze could still help Wilson propel herself into a stronger position.

Matsuyama misses birdie chancepublished at 06:44 British Summer Time 31 July 2021

    Matsuyama -12 (12)

How good would it be to see Hideki Matsuyama win on home soil? His Masters victory reverberated around Japan... an Olympic gold? That would be something else.

Matsuyama has a chance to join Xander Schauffele in the lead on 13 under, but misses a tiddler of a birdie putt and stays one back!

You can see they're all working extremely hard at the start - their heart-rates will be through the roof.

We're used to seeing these boards fly but her board is in the water and I can't tell you how hard these conditions are for these women.

Tough conditions out there for the windsurfers with not much wind to work with and it must be exhausting to try find any bit of breeze they can.

Coming up to the end of the first leg and Emma Wilson is currently down in seventh for Great Britain, with Poland in the gold-medal position.

'One of the times of my life'published at 06:36 British Summer Time 31 July 2021

    Fleetwood -10 (F)

Tommy Fleetwood shot a superb 64 to move into contention on 10 under par on Saturday.

Here is the GB golfer on his Olympic experience so far: "It's been one of the times of my life, once the tournament starts you are transitioning in and out of being in the village and enjoying that to coming here and doing what I do day in, day out.

"Being at the Olympic Games, being around the athletes and having the support of Team GB, feeling like I am supporting them, it has been inspiring, it's been motivating, I have really loved it.

"You are with a tonne of different athletes coming from different backgrounds, it seems like there are thousands of different events going on and you focus on your aspect, but it's a lot bigger than anything we do week in, week out!

"You come off and see the guys you have all week, see when they are competing next - some have won gold, some haven't and you relate to it in sport but that's all part of it.

"It has been my goal for a very long time and my Olympic dream is still alive, and that's a beautiful thing really."

There's also just been a couple of medals win in the mixed team trap shooting.

Spain have taken the gold as they edge the final with San Marino but there's still plenty for the latter to celebrate.

Earlier at these Games they became the least populated nation to ever win an Olympic medal after Alessandra Perilli took shooting bronze and now the country with a population of 34,000 has another medal thanks to Perilli and team-mate Gian Marco Bertiare's silver.

    Cheers Luke!

An absolutely mammoth stint of keyboard bashing overnight that also saw GB bring home some golds. If Olympic medals were awarded to live text commentary writers...

Right, on with the show and let's start with what's coming up this morning...

  15. Postpublished at 06:19 British Summer Time 31 July 2021

My friends, we've been through much. Gold, more gold, some rugby, boxing, golf, I can't even remember much else other than the fact we've managed to get Spandau Ballet in this live text too.

It is my time to depart. Thanks for sharing in the joy. I know for a fact that as we hand the baton to the man Gary Rose, he will bring you more of it.

Visualise the podium and never, ever, step out of your lane. No good can come of it.

    Farewell. Go Gary...

Matsuyama makes parpublished at 06:14 British Summer Time 31 July 2021

    Matsuyama -12 (11)

Hideki Matsuyama rolls home a gutsy par on 11.

He stays one off the lead held American Xander Schauffele. It would be some story if a Japanese player wins golfing gold on home soil.

A reminder, today is day three, the golf will be decided tomorrow but there are a glut of players close to the lead, including Paul Casey, Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry and Tommy Fleetwood.

Shout out to the Spandau Ballet lads.

They'll pocket a few royalties this month surely?

    - Great Britain are brilliant at mixed relays

    - Great Britain own mixed triathlon relays

    - Mixed medley 4x100m relays sit firmly in Great Britain's back pocket

    - Great Britain sit in gold medal position so far in Eventing. We don't own it yet. We might.

    - Rugby sevens will have to wait until 2024 to be owned because France have denied us a gold-medal shot. A bronze could still happen.

    - Great Britain's Lauren Price will win at least a bronze medal. If this morning is anything to go by, it will probably be more.

To summarise. We're good at this Olympics thing.

McIlroy for birdie...published at 06:00 British Summer Time 31 July 2021

    McIlroy -10 (12)

Hideki Matsuyama makes par on 10. A reminder we have three leaders on 12 under. The Japanese star, American Xander Schauffele and Mexico's Carlos Ortiz.

Rory McIlroy has a putt here to move to within one shot of the three... nice weight... wide.

Ireland's Shane Lowry and Team GB's Paul Casey are both 11 under. This is shaping up to be a serious race for the medals in the final round on Sunday.
