Great Britain lead after dressagepublished at 04:32 British Summer Time 31 July 2021

Team GB are sitting in first position in the team standings with a combined penalty score of 78.30 ahead of the cross country and show jumping events.

And in the individual standings, Germany's Michael Jung leads from GB's Oliver Townend, with Laura Collett sixth and Tom McEwen in 12th place.

It is the cross country on Sunday and McEwen said: "I think they’ve created a great track. It looks incredible, the grass is incredible, beautifully presented and lots of questions.

“There are lots of short, sharp bursts which isn’t that natural to our horses because we’re used to the big flowing hills.

“With time, horses get a lot more stamina and endurance and one thing we’ve got is three different five-star win under three different horses.

“They’ve all proved that. It will be a different test, you might get away with something early, you may pay for it a little later, it’s covering all the angles and hopefully we’ll be as good as we can be.”

The men's golf competition is into the third of four rounds and Team GB's Paul Casey is among the climbers on what is traditionally known as 'moving day'.

Casey has picked up three shots in his opening six holes and is 10 under overall, one behind American leader Xander Schauffele.

Home favourite and Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama is also at 10 under after three holes, while Shane Lowry is nine under, one ahead of his Irish team-mate Rory McIlroy.

Tommy Fleetwood is moving in the right direction and is up to six under, having picked up three shots in 11 holes.

Back in the 1980s I remember watching kids tv with endless BMX freestyle performances. The only one I ever tried and completed with any success was the endo.

I wonder if Charlotte Worthington's parents were involved in that?

Wherever her talent has come from, the double World Championships bronze medallist is into the Olympic final. Here's the video to prove it...

Adam Peaty is asked why is this team so good?

"One word has changed the whole British team - belief. We believe we can win, we believe we can get world records. If you have belief you can build everything around that and we showed that tonight."

The Gold medal winning team talk to Sharron Davies:

Kathleen Dawson: "I was swimming my own race and it didn't matter if it was against men or women."

Adam Peaty: "Mel was just trying to keep me as calm as I can. I get a bit carried away especially when it's for the team. That just proves that tomorrow is going to be another good race but right now it's amazing to a part of these amazing women and Jimmy."

James Guy: "Pulling out of the 100m fly - it really hurt me doing that - I probably could have medalled this morning with that split there but it paid off. Gold medal, world record - can't beat that, especially with that team."

Anna Hopkin: "I was trying not to think about (Dressel chasing her down). I was trying not to think about how far ahead we were from them. It's just irrelevant when you're in the water - you've just got to race. When I turned I saw I still had a good bit of water in front of me and I just went for it. It's an amazing feeling and privilege to be in this team."

I believe Adam Peaty is singing and James Guy is chuckling.

Earlier I pointed to some tremendous deltoids sported by Benjamin Proud. I'll now state Adam Peaty has terrific obliques. Anyone would think he's twisting through water all day long.
