They're not going to be able to go for a medal and that is quite something for Australia. They started well, at the pace they needed to go rather than the pace they were capable of going. It was a valiant effort.

So Germany lead in qualifying, followed by Italy, France and then New Zealand.

I say 'lead', that's a little bit of an understatement - they're queuing up half way out of the velodrome after that world-record time.

Australia, Canada, USA and then Great Britain to come.

    Sir Chris Hoy
Six-time Olympic cycling champion on BBC Radio 5 Live

Men's team pursuit has had a difficult time in the last two years but I think they have come back to their best form.

Ed Clancy is another rider today going for a historic fourth consecutive gold medal in the team pursuit. He is already the most successful rider in the team pursuit of all time but this would cement his legacy.

I think the team on the whole could be looking at four gold medals. I think they still have the chance to be the overall top nation but I wouldn't expect the extreme dominance that we have seen over the last three or four Olympic Games.

The men's qualifying begins at 09:02 BST

One thing you do not do is slow up and take it easy.

She's one of the fastest 200m runners in the world. Craziness, craziness.

It's just really lazy performance. As a coach myself, I don't think I could talk to my athletes for a couple of weeks if they did that.

  17. What's happened so far on Day 10?published at 08:05 British Summer Time 2 August 2021

There's not a lot to report on the medal front for Great Britain so far. Absolutely nothing, in fact. And GB have been kept waiting for two potential medals in the sailing as today's programme has been postponed to Tuesday.

That doesn't mean there hasn't been plenty of action on the track so far today though. Here's what you've missed:

    • British pair Laura Muir and Katie Snowden safely progressed to the semi-finals of the women's 1500m, while world champion Sifan Hassan recovered from a fall to win her heat
    • Beth Dobbin is into the women's 200m semi-finals after finishing second in her heat, ahead of Jamaica's Elaine Thompson-Herah, but 100m bronze medallist Shericka Jackson has missed out
    • Briton Nick Miller has made the hammer final
    • Greece's Miltiadis Tentoglou prevailed in a dramatic final round of the men's long jump final, claiming gold with his final leap
    • Jasmine Camacho-Quinn won Puerto Rico's first ever track and field gold in the women's 100m hurdles final
    • GB's Deborah Kerr has qualified for the women's kayak single 200m semi-finals

'Laura Kenny has a great chance of winning three gold medals'published at 08:04 British Summer Time 2 August 2021

    Sir Chris Hoy
Six-time Olympic cycling champion on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think Team GB have improved massively in the last year. If the Games would have taken place this time last year they might not have been in as strong a position. Other nations have definitely raised the bar over the last five years and Team GB are no longer the dominant force across the board.

Having said that we are now back to seeing riders like Laura Kenny back to their best. I think Laura Kenny has a great chance of winning three gold medals. She would become the most decorated Olympian of all time from Britain if she can do that.
