It's so good to see Shaunae Miller-Uibo smile and her run in this 200m was very encouraging. She should be excited to run in the final. It's looking like a very exciting final and I cannot wait.

The Bahamas' Shaunae Miller-Uibo also goes through to the final in 22.14.

What are the rules around transgender athletes?published at 11:43 British Summer Time 2 August 2021

    Women's +87kg

In 2004 the IOC permitted transgender athletes to take part in the Olympics.

Since 2015 athletes who have transitioned from male to female can compete in women's sport - without requiring surgery - as long as they have declared their gender identity is female for at least four years and kept their testosterone below a set level.

Three other openly transgender athletes were selected for Tokyo 2020.

Footballer Quinn is playing for Canada’s women’s team. Skateboarder Alana Smith competed last week. BMX cyclist Chelsea Wolfe was a reserve athlete who did not appear.

What Elaine Thompson-Herah did there was kill the bend which is one of the benefits of the outside lane. That propelled her into a position where she didn't have to attack the line. We might see something really special in the final. Elaine has already shown she is a class above. I don't know what Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce will be thinking when he sees that!

Another Jamaican win in the 200m semi-finals.

Defending champion Elaine Thompson-Herah basically jogs over the line as she qualifies first in the second semi-final in a lightning-quick 21.66 seconds, equalling her personal best.

The most interesting result is second place where Namibian 18-year-old Christine Mboma gets the better of American Gabrielle Thomas. Mboma's 21.97 is a new junior world record.

Thomas may well go through as a fastest loser with 22.01.

Great Britain's Beth Dobbin finishes fifth with 22.85.

New Zealander Hubbard set to make historypublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 2 August 2021

    Women's +87kg

Laurel Hubbard's selection has sparked debate. The New Zealand Olympics committee says Hubbard is a “really important role model” who “opens up a conversation about inclusivity”, while some of her fellow competitors have welcomed the move.

However critics, including some athletes, have questioned her inclusion. A key aspect has been around whether Hubbard carries an advantage due to going through male puberty.

Many of the scientists and academics cannot agree on this point.

The nice thing about Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce's run was that she was not that aggressive. I think she can go under 22 seconds. She wasn't challenged too much in that semi-final but you do want to do enough to show you are here to win a medal. Coming into the semis you just want to get a good lane for the final to run in.

    Women's 200m semi-final

    Women's 100m silver medallist Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce wins the first semi-final in 22.13 seconds.

Namibia's Beatrice Masilingi qualifies alongside the Jamaican with a personal best of 22.40, while the Bahamas' Anthonique Strachan and Australia's Riley Day will have to wait and see if their 22.56 is good enough for a fastest loser spot.

The first two from each of the three semi-finals will qualify automatically for the final, with the two next fastest across the three races going through as well.

Coming up in around 20 minutes is the women's +87kg weightlifting.

Britain's Emily Campbell is involved. She is the current European champion and won bronze at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

New Zealand's Laurel Hubbard is also in action, as she becomes the first openly transgender athlete to compete in a different gender category to that which they were born at an Olympic Games.

  12. What's happened so far on Day 10?published at 11:27 British Summer Time 2 August 2021

There was good news for a couple of Brits on the track earlier, though. Here's what's happened so far on day 10 in the athletics:

    • British pair Laura Muir and Katie Snowden safely progressed to the semi-finals of the women's 1500m, while world champion Sifan Hassan recovered from a fall to win her heat
    • Beth Dobbin is into the women's 200m semi-finals after finishing second in her heat, ahead of Jamaica's Elaine Thompson-Herah, but 100m bronze medallist Shericka Jackson has missed out
    • Briton Nick Miller has made the hammer final
    • Greece's Miltiadis Tentoglou prevailed in a dramatic final round of the men's long jump final, claiming gold with his final leap
    • Jasmine Camacho-Quinn won Puerto Rico's first ever track and field gold in the women's 100m hurdles final

More athletics golds to comepublished at 11:24 British Summer Time 2 August 2021

    Athletics

Right then, we'll return to the equestrian later. In the meantime we've got another three gold medals to be decided on the track and in the field shortly.

The women's discus, men's 3,000m steeplechase and women's 5,000m titles are up for grabs in this session.

Two-time Olympic champion Sandra Perkovic of Croatia is one of two track and field athletes looking to secure a third consecutive Olympic title in Tokyo while Kenyan athletes are expected to feature prominently in the steeplechase.

But in the 5,000m, Sifan Hassan goes for the first part of what she hopes will be a treble in Tokyo. It's been a busy day for the Dutchwoman, who earlier had a dramatic heat in the 1500m, falling at the start of the final lap but still managing to win after overhauling the field in a stunning final 350m.

Those rounds also leave the British trio well placed for the individual medals later on.

Oliver Townend's one fault on that last round saw him slip to second in the individual standings, with Tom McEwen third and Laura Collett fifth before the final round of jumping to decide those medals at 12:45 BST.
