  2. Canada reach women's football final

    USA 0-1 Canada

    It's all over! Canada are heading to the Tokyo 2020 women's football final.

    World champions USA had more possession and more shots on target, but couldn't find the breakthrough.

    Jessie Fleming's penalty won it for Beverly Priestman's side after substitute Deanne Rose was fouled by Tierna Davidson inside the box.

    Canada took women's football bronze at London 2012 and Rio 2016, but will leave Tokyo with at least a silver medal. They will face the winners of Australia-Sweden in Friday's gold medal match.

    Seems a long time since Great Britain's last gold... or am I just getting greedy??

    Max Whitlock defended his pommel horse title yesterday, shortly after Charlotte Worthington won gold in the women's BMX park freestyle.

    We are getting to the business end of the showjumping which will decide the team eventing medals, and Great Britain are in pole position.

    Oliver Townend is the last GB rider to go and he effectively has a four-fence cushion, but anything can happen as the drama unfolds.

    It's not, Jennifer Gadirova scores 13.233... USA's Jade Carey wins gold, with Italy's Vanessa Ferrari taking silver..

    And both Japan's Mai Murakami and Angelina Melnikova of the Russian Olympic Committee will receive a bronze medal having been given the same score.

    The British team have come here and really performed well. It's absolutely phenomenal that these two young ladies did not look out of place at all in these finals.

    Unfortunately I don't think it will be enough to push into the medals for Jennifer Gadirova.

    Now it's Jennifer Gadirova. There were a couple of stumbles but what a performance by the 16-year-old in her first Olympics.

    Huge moment. Tierna Davidson brought down Deanne Rose to concede the penalty and Jessie Fleming makes no mistake from the spot.

    Substitute goalkeeper Adrianna Franch goes the right way, but she had no chance and Fleming slots it perfectly into the bottom corner.

    Canada are 16 minutes away from the Tokyo 2020 gold medal match!

    Rebeca Andrade has had a fantastic Olympics whatever happens here. She has come out here and wowed us. The 0.1 for stepping out of the floor might just cost her a medal place.

    It has been an absolute treat to cover this lady at these Games.

  12. GB retain lead with Townend to go

    It's four faults for second British rider Laura Collett, on London 52.

    The GB lead over Australia remains 17.9 pens with one round of riders left.

    Hopes for gold will now rest with Oliver Townend after Tom McEwen went clear earlier.

    It's an upbeat, expressive routine from Rebeca Andrade. I do not envy these judges, I can tell you.

    The Brazilian is given 14.033. That puts her fifth.

  14. USA 0-0 Canada - Women's football semi-final

    No shots on target for 65 minutes then four in four minutes, but Canada goalkeeper Stephanie Labbe is doing well to keep the United States out.

    The USA have stepped things up since making a few changes. They are looking comfortable after the introduction of Christen Press, Megan Rapinoe and Carli Lloyd, but can't find that all-important goal.

    The world champions are dominating possession and Canada are looking tired, but it's still all to play for!

    Now it's Mai Murakami of the host nation Japan.

    Looked decent, the judges are being given a tough job today.

    And she scores 14.166 - that's joint third with Angelina Melnikova of the Russian Olympic Committee.

    That's Jessica Gadirova out of the medal positions.

    Still an incredible effort from the 16-year-old.

    Italy's Vanessa Ferrari is awarded a 14.20 and takes the silver medal spot with three gymnasts to go, the last of which being Jessica's twin sister Jennifer.

  18. Australia are fifth fastest

    Men's team pursuit qualifying

    Australia have had their second chance after that horrible crash for Alex Porter.

    They clock 3:48.448 in their re-run to place fifth.

    That means GB - in fourth - remain in contention for the gold medal race and will take on Denmark, the world record holders and now Olympic record holders too, on Tuesday.

    I think it is good enough for top three. For me this would be the story of the women's competition. Vanessa Ferrari has been around for so long. So near and yet so far so long.
