It was an incredible skill to deal with all the possible angles of attack round that course. They had to regroup and find their best pace. It came close to unravelling on the line.

That final run was played out to perfection by the British pair.

    Alex Capstick
    BBC Sport

The IOC is looking into a case of two Chinese athletes who wore Mao Zedong badges on the podium. The badges were pinned to the jerseys of Team Sprint gold medalists Bao Shanju and Zhong Tianshi during their medal ceremony at the Velodrome. It’s a potential violation of rule 50 which bars political gestures on the victory podium.

    Men's 49er medal race

    Niall Myant

It could potentially be a gold medal here for Great Britain if they can keep New Zealand back in third, the German duo doing the hard work. It would mean the points gained by Britain would see them winning gold.

If you want Great Britain to win a gold medal here, you need to be cheering for the German duo. They need to hold on to second place here.

They sit four points adrift of defending champions and two-time America’s Cup winners Peter Burling and Blair Tuke of New Zealand.

They are also level on points with Spain’s Diego Botin and Iago Lopez, while they have a healthy 10-point cushion in third place.

    Men's 1500m heats

    Tom Brown
    BBC Sport Wales in Tokyo

Jake Heyward may have come into these Olympics under the radar but his name won't be a secret much longer.

The 22-year-old won European titles over 1500m at both U18 and U20 level. But has struggled with an Achilles injury since and spent the last four months of last year in a protective boot.

Since returning to fitness he has broken the Welsh records over 1500m and mile, qualified for his first Olympics and has now won his heat to qualify for the semi-finals.

    One to watch.

Seesonde of Thailand is overcome with emotion at having been declared a split-decision victor in a very close contest. Practically nothing in it.

Caroline Dubois bitterly disappointed, but there is jubilation for the boxer from Thailand and her supporters.

This is all part of the process for Dubois. As bitter a pill as it may be to swallow at this juncture, she's only going to improve from this. Come Paris 2024, imagine how good she's going to be.
