    Men's combined final

Sport climbers seem to be very chilled people.

They are in the final round of the competition - lead climbing - and the athletes sit on a sofa in their relevant podium position when they come off the wall.

American Nathaniel Coleman is in gold-medal position so far, which earns him the middle spot on the couch.

We would've wanted to see Nafi Thiam up against KJT and thoughts with KJT at the moment but to defend your Olympic title is sensational.

She's had her problems as well but she's managed them incredibly well - to deliver that over the past two days is sensational.

    Men's sprint

Jason Kenny has been speaking following his elimination from the men's sprint.

Kenny, the two-time defending champion, was defeated in two legs by world champion Harrie Lavreysen of the Netherlands, ending the Brit's nine-year reign as Olympic champion.

“It isn’t [a disappointing result]. I don’t expect to be the best in the world all the time. It is really hard to win, at the end of the day," he said.

“I gave it my best shot, and I just wasn’t good enough.

"For whatever reason, I wasn’t as good as I wanted to be physically, and these boys are just better.”

USA relay failure 'a total embarrassment'published at 13:16 British Summer Time 5 August 2021

    Men's 4x100m relay

American sprinting great Carl Lewis says the USA's failure to qualify for the men's 4x100m final is a "total embarrassment."

The world champions arrived in Tokyo as favourites for the event and a first Olympics gold in the relay since 2000.

However, their quartet of Trayvon Bromell, Fred Kerley, Ronnie Baker and Cravon Gillespie trailed home sixth, in a heat won by China, in a time of 38.10 seconds.

In a post on Twitter, Lewis, who won two of his nine Olympics golds in the relay, said: "The USA team did everything wrong in the men's relay.

"The passing system is wrong, athletes running the wrong legs, and it was clear that there was no leadership. It was a total embarrassment, and completely unacceptable for a USA team to look worse than the AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) kids I saw."

Leroy Burrell, a member of the 1992 gold medal-winning US relay squad alongside Lewis, added: "I have no words."

Some of Michael Johnson's frustration also stems from the US men's relay team's failure to qualify in the 4x100m heats earlier today. But he's not the only one feeling disgruntled.

    Michael Johnson

It's not surprising the US missed out - they have come in with really fast times and just not performed. There was no holding camp and they just have not acclimated.

This might be many athletes' first Oympics but not their first major championships. And the debutants are doing well (Athing Mu).

There is almost a disconnect of being true professionals on the circuit and being on the team. This has been going downhill for quite sometime and there's no excuse for it where we have the talent and support system.

A lot come through the collegiate system but if the budgets get cut first, that will affect us. And we're seeing that.

But the American Michaels, Cherry and Norman, could well have something to say about that, as well as Kirani James of course.
