Laura Muir is one of these athletes who just gives her absolute best every single day - in training and in competition.

She got that race tactically spot on she wasn't going to leave herself exposed. She has come here in the pinnacle shape of her career and to deliver on it, it's so amazing.

I love this. Laura Muir is just speaking to the BBC and even now she's as determined as ever. It's like she still can't accept the battle is over and defiantly shouts "I've worked so hard".

It's like she's still fighting. I love it. It's that relentlessness that got her there in the first place. Never change!

She did get the tactics right today. The amount of decisions that you have to make throughout that race. She got it right, Sifan Hassan got it wrong today.

Laura Muir is draped in the Union Jack and running around the track alongside Faith Kipyegon. Let's call them 1500m besties.

Let's all nod a little to Kipyegon too.

The champion in 2016 is champion five years on.

I mean let's break it down.

Faith Kipyegon and Sifan Hassan pushed with 250m to go, Laura Muir briefly looked like she was in a race for bronze but then she responded, wrestling back Hassan while Kipyegon just kept on going.

The result is an Olympic record for Kipyegon of 3:53.11.

Muir sets a national record of 3:54.50.

Laura Muir gets the silver for Great Britain, smashing her personal best, putting all her demons to rest and having the best race of her career.

Everyone here could not be more pleased for a British athlete.

Laura Muir you warrior.

She stared down Sifan Hassan and took her out, Faith Kipyegon is a bridge too far and raced clear but Muir boosts the GB medal tally and as you'd expect, she's collapsed on the track.

Empty... yet full in all that she has achieved.

Just 200m to go, the champion Faith Kipyegon has gone hard and early, Laura Muir is going to win a medal, she's grinding it out...

Off they go and Laura Muir sits in deep. Sifan Hassan has edged to the front of the pack inside 300m and Faith Kipyegon covers it.

But it's the 1500m, you can get boxed in, the lactic acid can burn up your legs from nowhere and when it comes to that final 100m, you can tense up and simply want it too much!

Throw the cards in the air, let's see how they fall.

And it would be remiss of us not to mention Kenya's Faith Kipyegon, who qualified fastest from the semi-finals. She's the Olympic champion no less and in most instances, champions don't go down easily!

Laura Muir, something of a silent operator. Head down, one foot in front of the other, battle, grind, make the most out of all she has. A competitor in every sense of the word.

Sifan Hassan, a woman who says she took up running simply to "unwind", she seems to be taking the sport to new places, defying common sense in chasing titles at 1500m, 5000m and 10,000m. The blend of stamina, endurance and raw pace needed to even entertain that tells you all you need to know about her ability.

Here we go then, our very own Laura Muir the David, Sifan Hissan something of a Goliath.
