    Men's flyweight final

That is a superb start to this final from GB's Galal Yafai.

Carlo Paalam recovered well enough after being sent to ground by that huge left hand from the Briton, but it's Yafai who is awarded the first round unanimously.

A breathless start as you'd expect as Galal Yafai and Carlo Paalam look to assert themselves in this final.

    Take a look at this.

A first in 65 yearspublished at 05:53 British Summer Time 7 August 2021

    Men's flyweight final

Whatever happens, Galal Yafai is guaranteed Great Britain’s first male Olympic flyweight medal in 65 years.

But he will be aiming to match the achievement of 1956 champion Terry Spinks - the only British male gold medallist in this weight class.

Nicola Adams (currently speaking about Yafai's journey over on BBC One) of course also claimed women’s flyweight gold in 2012 and 2016.

Victory today would see Yafai become Britain’s 17th Olympic boxing champion in history.

It's a huge day for Galal Yafai at Tokyo's Kokugikan Arena.

The Team GB fighter contests the men's flyweight final against Carlo Paalam of the Philippines in around 10 minutes time.

Five years ago he was knocked out at the quarter-final stage in Rio - and only a year before that he was busy working in a car factory.

Yafai believes boxing was always his destiny, though, given he and his brothers would fight all the time as youngsters. His brothers Gamal and Kal are both pro boxers.

"It was destined and meant to be. We were fighting every day in the sitting room with gloves on," Yafai said.

"Those two started me off, hopefully I can finish it off now."
