Gold medallist, Ben Maher will not jump in the final round of the team event, and he spoke to BBC Sport to explain:

"It's been a tough night for our team. Holly (Smith) and Harry (Charles) gave it their best but it's not our night. 24 faults puts us out of medal contention. Explosion W has been incredible this week and he doesn't owe anyone anything so we decided to keep him back and save him for another day.

"I am not a quitter but with these animals it's been a long jouney over here. He goes away Olympic champion but it's important for me he comes back safe.

On winning the Olympic gold with Exlosion W:

"Every dream of mine has come true this week. Obviously it's not happened this evening but it will sink in now and I'm sure it will become a reality."

It's getting very competitive. Letesenbet Gidey is in front but Sifan Hassan is right behind her.

Gidey turns around and asks Hassan why she keeps clipping her! She's not impressed.

They have dropped the pace very slightly but it's all about these three now.

Great Britain's Jessica Judd and Eilish McColgan are further behind. They won't get a medal because it's all about the three at the front.

Great Britain's Joe Choong after winning men's modern pentathlon gold: "I'm in shock. I was swearing in my head. There were a couple of heavy jumps on the ride, the swim was good, the fencing was good and the running was pretty tactical. The shooting was pretty sketchy but I pulled myself together."

How did it feel watching Kate French getting the gold?

"Yesterday was an absolute rollercoaster. I saw the ride and it was a bit of a carnage wasn't it? But Kate's run calmed me back down. She was a legend.

"I've always said I want to be the best in the world at something. This is literally a dream come true.

"I couldn't let Kate have all the limelight. I felt the pressure to keep up with her and get one for the boys."

Jumping around this big track for 8 faults is not a bad performance, and he wasn't even meant to be doing this. We can't be too hard on him.
