    Women's -63kg judo

Lucy Renshall's Olympic dream is over in the women's -63kg judo competition.

Her ‘reward’ for winning a three-way battle to be selected for Team GB had been a first-round clash with world number three Miku Tashiro of Japan, a four-time World Championship medallist.

She ran the Japanese judoka close but lost out by a single point. Onwards to Paris.

What some may not know is that new 200m men's Olympic freestyle champion Tom Dean had Covid twice in the last year and was “worried” and “frightened” it would impact his ability to qualify for Tokyo 2020, let alone win gold.

In an interview prior to the Games he told BBC Sport he had been struggling to walk up the stairs at home.

“I had it twice, one in September and once in January," Dean said.

"It was the biggest setback, three weeks out of the water in January was brutal because it was then another three weeks of building it back up. It was upsetting because nobody takes six off in the build up to an Olympics.

"It was a real shock to the system but the it spurred me on because I knew I had some catch up work to do.

"The three-week build up back to training had to be structured to prevent any long-term damage to my heart and lungs so it was scary. When I can’t walk up the stairs without coughing and wheezing this is going to be tough to come back from, so that was frightening."

Stefanos Tsitsipas said he had learned his lessons from losing to Frances Tiafoe in the Wimbledon first round last month - and so it has proved.

The Greek third seed avenges that shock defeat at the All England Club with a dominant win over the American in Tokyo.

Tsitsipas was dominant on serve throughout - Tiafoe winning 10 receiving points in the match and just one in the second set.

That meant a single break in each set was enough for French Open finalist Tsitsipas to reach the third round, where he will face either France's Ugo Humbert or Serbia's Miomir Kecmanovic.

No sign of play restarting on the outer courts yet...

In the other men's rugby sevens quarter-finals, defending champions Fiji tackle Australia, New Zealand meet Canada and South Africa take on Argentina.

There was agony for Olympic debutants Ireland, though, as they bowed out of the main competition on points difference.

After losing both of their games on Monday, tries by Hugo Lennox and Harry McNulty, plus a Billy Dardis conversion, secured a 12-7 victory over Kenya, but it was not enough to progress.

Germany ran this corner before an easy pass and a great finish from Fuchs to just lift that up.

You want to be taking that shot as soon as it is hitting the line. Phil Roper does just that.

That is a fantastic start for Great Britain, who soaked up some pressure from Germany. It is very clinical.

There's still a bit of rain around - the wind and the rain - not a good combination for getting out there and competing in the tennis.

Players are heading back to the locker rooms.

Very frustrating, especially with Andy Murray and Joe Salisbury having made such a promising start

Rain delay forces players off courtpublished at 04:33 British Summer Time 27 July 2021

    *Murray/Salisbury 2-1 Krawietz/Puetz

Oh no! More rain at the Ariake Tennis Park. Andy Murray and Joe Salisbury grab their bags and head off for cover.

The match was delayed by an hour because of the wet weather. Let's see how long they are made to wait in the locker room this time.

It was a strong start from the British pair, who have teamed up together for the first time for the Games.

They backed up their break in Murray's service game, then pushed German pair Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz to deuce before they managed to hold.

It has been an impressive start for Great Britain's men's hockey team in Tokyo: two wins from two.

After defeating South Africa in their first pool game, Britain beat Canada in their second.

The Germans, who thrashed Canada before losing to Belgium, should provide a tougher test.

They have won medals at the last four Olympics, including gold in 2008 and 2012.
