"Here you go, there were question marks over the England half-backs, saying they can't do this and that, but they have kicked well today. The difference in the last 10 minutes has been the kicking game."

  3. CONVERTED TRYpublished at 08:46 British Summer Time 25 October 2014

Sam Tomkins's underwear is revealed as he stretches out for the line - but he is not the one left embarrassed. That's Samoa full-back Tim Simona for his juggling act. The video referee awards the try and Gareth Widdop boots over the sticks. That's six from six for the England half-back.

Oh, and black briefs. Tomkins is wearing black briefs for anyone who is interested...

"We come back to the last two kicks. Ben Roberts's was poor but Matty Smith created pressure. It is such a vital part of the game. If they can control the ball, England can win because Samoa were ahead emotionally there. There is plenty of time on the clock."

Nope. Shenton's contribution, as he leapt into the stuffy Brisbane air to gather Matty Smith's high kick, went backwards rules the video referee. Joel Tomkins scooped up the loose ball to put England back ahead. The decision is greeted by Samoan boos before Gareth Widdop, you won't be surprised to hear, makes no mistake with the kick.

  9. TRY REVIEWpublished at 08:39 British Summer Time 25 October 2014

The video referee is earning his corn now. We go back upstairs after England second rower Joel Tomkins touches down. Was there a knock on from Michael Shenton in the build up?

"What happens when you lose the ruck is that you need to tighten up the defence. It is twice now that they have gone the wrong way. They need to squeeze up because it was the last play. Two fundamental defensive errors has cost England. The crowd are humming behind Samoa now."

Pita Godinet does have control of the ball and Samoa are level. The Wakefield half-back clings on with barely his right thumb to ground the ball.

Ben Roberts keeps his cool to convert from close to the touchline and edge them ahead, sparking huge celebrations in the stands from huge swathes of Samoan fans.

  15. TRY REVIEWpublished at 08:33 British Summer Time 25 October 2014

Samoa are level! Or are they? Pita Godinet scrambles over again but has he got control of the ball? Over to the video referee...

The Samoans almost pull level! Second rower Frank Pritchard charges through the England defence, but has no support to finish off the move. A high bomb causes panic in the England defence - drop out.

Sam Tomkins lets the high kick bounce - big mistake. It is near the dead-ball line but bounces just in front of it and heads back into play. There is a huge scramble to reach the ball. At first the ref decides it was Samoan hands that put the ball out of play but then reverses his decision - correctly. It was Ryan Hall who got to the ball first.

"Defend the immediate, where is the ball? It is in front of you. The markers were looking wide but great instincts from Pita Godinet to score. That puts the cats amongst the pigeons. Just the way it opened up for him, you control your defensive pattern from marker."
