    Kevin Sinfield
Former England captain on BBC Two

"To go in at half-time in front is what we would have expected. England notorious slow start has happened again but the Samoans have been very good.

"By coughing up possession, it means their energy is being sapped. England have had to make 50 more tackles than the Samoans. To only have 10 days training, it takes time to acclimatise."

  3. Half-timepublished at 07:57 British Summer Time 25 October 2014

And the half-time hooter is, er, hooted straight after Widdop's third goal of the match. England lead - just - and perhaps rather fortuitously. Half-time report? Could do better...

  4. PENALTYpublished at 07:56 British Summer Time 25 October 2014

Thankfully Daryl Clark is back to his feet rather quickly. Most men would be out for the count there. Stand-off Gareth Widdop has been impeccable with the boot and makes no mistake again from in front of the posts.

    Ian Millward
Former Super League and Australian NRL coach on BBC Two

"I am not sure Josh McGuire meant that, these things happen. Do England take the two or go for the four points?"

Ouch. You can wince as England loose forward Daryl Clark is mullered by two big Samoans, injuring his back in the process. England decide to go for goal from the penalty.

England are bashing on the Samoan try line now. They force Samoa into a drop-out from behind the sticks as they look to press home their advantage before the break.

  8. Postpublished at 07:51 British Summer Time 25 October 2014

England are feeling the groove now, finally showing the attacking flair we expected. Scrum-half Matty Smith puts in a neat grubber, intended for Tomkins, but Samoa full-back Tim Simona averts the bother.

  9. Postpublished at 07:49 British Summer Time 25 October 2014

Samoa offside from the kick-off. School boy - and a promising position for England.

    Brian Noble
Former Great Britain coach on BBC Two

"Well done England. They saw the Samoans coming and they have executed well for the finish. It is the first time they have done that. They will have chances if they get the ball at that end."

And England do exactly that. Matty Smith feeds his old Wigan mucker Sam Tomkins, who picks out centre Kallum Watkins for one of the simplest tries he'll score. Stand-off Gareth Widdop faces a tricky kick from the right touchline - but we didn't worry. The half-back shows superb technique to add the extras.

    Ian Millward
Former Super League and Australian NRL coach on BBC Two

"It gets nervous for England because of the number of balls they are coughing up. This is Daniel Vidot's home ground and the Samoans are playing safer. They have grown as a group after going 6-6.

"Samoa are a big physical team and if England do not have a share of the ball it will erode their defence."

Oh dear. It's all gone wrong for England, who have looked nervous since that opening Samoan try. The Pacific Islanders evade would-be England tacklers with a trio of sharp offloads before the long ball out to the right flank is finished off by Brisbane-born winger Daniel Vidot. Cue Samoan pandemonium.

  16. Postpublished at 07:41 British Summer Time 25 October 2014

Samoa have the bit between their teeth now. England are scrambling, not for the first time, as full-back Sam Tomkins breaks the line to brilliantly fly into a tackle and stop the Samoans in their tracks.

  17. Postpublished at 07:40 British Summer Time 25 October 2014

    Brian Noble
Former Great Britain coach on BBC Two

"Samoa just went up the middle with the play and Isaac Liu got the ball down even with defenders in attendance. They couldn't stop him.

"The concern for England for me is that they are making this a hard game - when they get the ball they are looking to exploit weaknesses in the Samoa team but you have to have ball to do that."

And there you go. Samoan battering ram Issac Liu powers over the England line, despite a host of white shirts clinging on to his bulky frame. Kyle Stanley makes no mistake with the boot to level.

  19. Postpublished at 07:37 British Summer Time 25 October 2014

England have the armoury to pepper holes in the Samoan defence, but they're not making life easy for themselves. They concede a pair of cheap penalties as Samoa threaten.

  20. Postpublished at 07:35 British Summer Time 25 October 2014

    Brian Noble
Former Great Britain coach on BBC Two

"Fabulous play from Daryl Clark. Coach Sean Long will have been talking about it all week, you knew he was going to run. His Castleford team-mate Michael Shenton was following him to go over."
