Paul Cook:, external Up at 4:30 to watch the RL and I'm not really a fan. Starting to favour the egg rather than the football. Eng switched off. #rlbreakfast

Ben Slater:, external If international rugby league was played over 50 minutes, England would be world beaters. Gutted. #AUSvENG #bbcrl

Wattolass:, external Well done England, fab game of RL in spite of result.... losing to Ozzies by four points is no mean feat. Proud England Fan anyway.

    Four Nations

So where does that leave us? None the wiser frankly. Any of the Four Nations can still make the final - setting up a tantalising weekend to conclude the group stage.

England face the unbeaten Kiwis in their last group game, while the Aussies look to inflict a third straight defeat on Samoa.

Former England international on BBC Two

"You need your star players to do something special and in this game the momentum changed for me with the Australian substitution in the second half - Sam Thaiday went off, Cameron Smith went to loose forward and half-back Ben Hunt came on. Hunt was busy. The Aussie guys will be made up."

    Former Great Britain captain

"We have been here before. You look at it and think, England were in front and shut up shop. It took to the last five minutes for England to get back playing again. You could see the momentum change in the game. Getting quick play-the-balls which allowed them to play rugby."

Contrasting scenes in Melbourne. The smiling Australians can't believe their luck as they wave and clap the home support, Cameron Smith sticking on a green and gold sombrero in celebration. England trudge around saying 'thank you' to their loyal band of followers. No grins and comedy hats there - just grimaces.

Australia have been let off the hook - and they know it. England prop James Graham drops to his haunches, probably in disbelief. Australia edge another thriller to haul themselves off the bottom of the Four Nations group.

"Because Ryan Hall touched it last for England, it means Australia get the ball back on the 20 metre restart."

  9. NO TRYpublished at 07:00 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2014

NO TRY! A collective sigh of relief from the home crowd. Aussies rejoice, England are left heartbroken.

Phew! England survive the repeat set and then start to attack themselves. Tom Burgess drives into the Aussie defence before Daryl Clark punches through. England on the last tackle, throw the ball around like a group of jugglers, desperate to keep the ball alive. Alas, they can't. Possession back to the Aussies. Five minutes left...

"If you want to win the game, you have to think about Daryl Clark around the ruck. They need to created something around the smaller players in the Australian side.

"The difference between the two teams at this stage has been the final kick of their attacking plays."
