Huddersfield Giants have had the best of this scrappy affair.

Danny Brough's two penalties, having earlier added the extras when Jodie Broughton went in for the game's first score, means they have a 10-point lead at the break.

  2. Postpublished at 13:51 British Summer Time 31 May 2015

Jake Connor dives over in the corner for Huddersfield. But Catalans Dragons have a knock-on call go their way and it will be no try.

  3. PENALTY (Brough)published at 13:49 British Summer Time 31 May 2015

Morgan Escare spills a high ball for Catalans and Scott Dureau comes in to concede a penalty and just hand Huddersfield another two easy points.

With a swing of the leg, Danny Brough splits the post for the points.

"Being so close to the pitch really gives you an insight on how the play is unfolding. Craig Huby is particularly vocal for Huddersfield, leading from the front, giving his players the 'calm down' signal as they grab the first try.

"Catalans' Scott Dureau gives a cry of anguish after kicking the ball out on the full, while there are some thundering hits echoing around St James' Park."

Handbags at 12 paces. Huddersfield's Jermaine McGillvary reacts to some niggle from Ian Henderson.

Huddersfield get the penalty and they are back to within 20 metres of the Catalans try line.

Hopefully it's too early to be considering these types of records, but Catalans were involved in the lowest scoring match in Magic Weekend history back in 2011, losing 11-4 to Harlequins in Cardiff four years ago.

Where could Catalans Dragons' reply possibly come from?

It is not like they don't have the talent to rack up the points, be it Todd Carney, Morgan Escare, Willie Tonga, Zeb Taia. However, you need the ball to actually attack, and right now they are starved of possession.

That is a sad sight. Brett Ferres with his knee heavily iced. Huddersfield's England forward will play no further part today.

"Remember when you used to play British bulldog in the playground and there would be bodies flying everywhere? In the slippery conditions, this is what some of the challenges resemble at times. with the players' frames being forced into some odd shapes.

"Huddersfield have a large group of fans stood in the Gallowgate End, where they're attacking, going through their rendition of songs and finally they've been rewarded with the first score of the game."

"I can't speak highly enough of Danny Brough. Everything about his body language showed a short little kick, but he flipped the ball with the outside of his left foot to the winger. That's absolutely world class. It sold everybody in the stadium."

  12. TRY (Broughton, goal Brough)published at 13:37 British Summer Time 31 May 2015

Jodie Broughton has been waiting out on the left wing for 25 minutes for exactly a moment like this.

Danny Brough came up with pin-point kick, and easy as you like Broughton lands the first points of this game in the corner. Brough adds the goal too.

Craig Kopczak looked to have gone over for Huddersfield. But no, we continue to wait.

And we click over into a fourth successive set for Huddersfield.

How long can Catalans hold the Giants back?

A few sore bodies in there with Dragon Willie Tonga getting some running repairs.

A run of successive sets for Huddersfield Giants, but some brilliant defending by Catalans keep them at bay.

The pressure is relieved momentarily, but the Giants start all over again near the halfway line.

And that is why Catalans full-back Morgan Escare is rated so highly. His ability to scramble across field to rush the ball into touch with runners closing in and the try line begging was immense.

Ukuma Ta'ai into the game to replace Brett Ferres for Huddersfield.

Not a bad replacement as he has seven tries to his name this season.

"Brett Ferres, after being given a no try for the effort a few minutes ago, has come hobbling back to the Huddersfield bench.

"He is asked by one of the medical team if he can continue. A shake of the head from the England man suggests his game is over."

"Ferres is a big loss. We know he's had a problem with his ankle. It's one of those where, if you're a little bit weak in one area, it can affect somewhere else. Hopefully he won't be out too long because he's a player everyone wants to watch."

  20. Postpublished at 13:24 British Summer Time 31 May 2015

How costly is that for Huddersfield as Brett Ferres gets up and is helped off the field with what looks like a knee injury.

And there is some confusion as Huddersfield don't get the try but regain possession. One would have thought it was a knock on but we move on with Catalans with ball in hand.
