When Scotland are in the right parts of the field they have looked more fluent.

I also think their defence has been outstanding. They really bent their backs and caused England some serious problems.

England captain Sam Burgess: "We are in front and that is all that matters but it has not been good enough. It is a bit scrappy. Fair play to Scotland but we have been a bit messy."

"Not good enough," England captain Sam Burgess tells BBC TV at half time.

    Honest words from the skip.

He looks like a man who will be bashing a few heads inside that dressing room in a minute.

Sometimes you get a bit of luck and that is what turns games. It wasn't a well executed play but fortune favoured Elliot Whitehead.

I am sure Luke Gale mis-hit that kick. It ended up in Whitehead's hands, he wasn't asking questions.

    England can breath easy.

Three minutes to half time, Scotland will not want to concede again and will be pleased with this scoreline at the interval.

They did lead the game, but if you offered them 12-8 down at half time, they've have snatched your hand off, wouldn't they?

England lead for the first time in the game.

Luke Gale's grubber kick bounces up nicely - you could say fortunately - into the path of Elliott Whitehead and the former Bradford man has a free run through to the try zone.

That will make the home fans feel a bit better. They're waving their St George flags now. Didn't see them doing that early in the game.

Gale pops over the extra two points from close range.

England break to the other end and touch down through Elliott Whitehead. Will it be given or is he offside?

Great catch. As good as any goalkeeper in the Premier League that. Tremendous work.

England are under pressure following Danny Brough's crossfield kick, but Mark Percival rises like David Seaman to pluck the ball out of the air. Brilliant handling.

But guess what? Scotland give away a penalty...

I have been very impressed with this Scottish defence.

Whether hitting the lead runners or the back man they are making very good defensive decisions.

The New Zealand and Australia players have arrived at the ground and they are taking a close look at the action from the tunnel.

A few confused looks on their faces, they've just seen the scoreboard.

I am just looking at England and there was a lot of venom in the opening 20 minutes against New Zealand but they just been a little lacking in this game.

England have just added the Burgess twins and maybe they will make it a bit more physical in the middle of the park.

Excellent work from Scotland to resist the England pressure as full-back Lachlan Coote scoots across to bend and collect Luke Gale's kick in one swift movement.

Slick stuff from the North Queensland Cowboy player, who qualifies for the nation through his Glasgow-born grandma.

Oh dear, Scotland reminding me of the Catalans Dragons team from a few seasons ago. A lack of discipline by giving away cheap penalty after penalty. They have conceded six now.

Is it going to cost them?

    Elliott Whitehead (27 mins)

Ah. England back in the game.

It all came about after Scotland gave away another cheap penalty.

Wigan's George Williams opens up the chance with a brilliant run forward, bouncing off the tackle from Danny Addy.

The ball is passed on eventually to Elliott Whitehead, who dances round a Scotland defender to touch down.

    Luke Gale adds the extras.

Game on, although England coach Wayne Bennett does not look too impressed.

What a fantastic finish from Matty Russell.

It is obviously Scotland's favoured side down the left. I didn't think he had a chance whatsover. Somehow has has grounded that try. That was one of the most acrobatic tries anyone will see.

We have a sensational rugby league game coming up.
