    Australia 24-0 New Zealand

The video ref is called into action to check on a potential try from Greg Inglis, who pushes his way over the line with three men around him, but the replays show he has been held up. The Kiwis would breathe a sigh of relief, but they don't have time. Back 10 and we go again.

    Australia 24-0 New Zealand

New Zealand simple aren't making any impact with their sets. A rare attacking moment in the Australia half comes to an end through a lack of imagination and execution on the last as Rapana is forced to hack a kick out of touch.

In a flash, down the other end, Australia force a second set of six with a huge tackle to pin a Kiwi man in his own try area. Relentless.

There might have been a slightly stunned silence at one point - the disappointment felt by the neutrals perhaps.

But that has changed now, instead there is applause for the Kangaroos and the odd gasp. The flick pass from Matt Gillett in the move that led to their latest try quite rightly deserved nothing but just that. There is so much to admire here.

TRY - Australia 24-0 New Zealandpublished at 33 mins

    Josh Dugan

This is men against boys. After setting up the potential try with a superb run through a series of tackles before Cooper Cronk is tackled, Josh Dugan finishes off the attack, getting his hands to Thurston's neat kick with two New Zealand players looking to shepherd the ball out.

Thurston hits the post with his kick. He is human.

  7. PENALTY - Australia 20-0 New Zealandpublished at 28 mins

    Jonathan Thurston

A high tackle gifts Jonathan Thurston another simple penalty to increase the margin. The most Australia have conceded under Mal Meninga is 18 points. Is this over already?

Changes happening. Boyd, Klemmer and Frizell on for Australia. New Zealand send on Martin Taupau.

This is a masterclass of rugby league. Absolutely fantastic.

    Australia 18-0 New Zealand

The Aussies have completed 11 out of 12 sets so far. Clinical. Another knock-on from New Zealand puts them on the attack again. Thurston's grubber puts the ball in the try area forcing Kenny-Dowall to ground and bring on another set.

Australia want the Four Nations crown and they want the No.1 spot in the world rankings and they're going to get it based on the first 25 minutes or so. That's a very well-worked four points indeed.

The errors are coming thick and fast from the Kiwis. Fusitua's poor handling gives Australia possession with a penalty in the bank.

Cronk's kick is claimed by a Kiwi man near his own line but with this Aussie defence in this mood that Aussie line might as well be 100 miles away.

Here is how Ferguson got the ball rolling for Australia.

How many more tries are they going to score here?

CONVERTED TRY - Australia 18-0 New Zealandpublished at 21 mins

    Trent Merrin

    Australia are charging away.

Having been gifted possession of the football, they get within 10 metres of the line and Cameron Smith's short pass gives Trent Merrin a one-on-one on the line and his momentum takes him crashing over.

Jonathan Thurston makes no mistake with the kick.

    New Zealand look done already.

    Australia 12-0 New Zealand

    Paul Fletcher
    BBC Sport at Anfield

There is a pretty decent crowd here at Anfield - the Kop is packed - and they have been treated to some clinical and ruthless play from Australia so far.

It is probably not what they wanted to see but we are seeing a team preying upon any weakness - note the way the Kangaroos are attacking the lack of mobility of makeshift stand-off Tohu Harris.

    Australia 12-0 New Zealand

Another New Zealand error, this time a knock-on following the play of the ball from Isaac Luke puts more pressure on the Kiwis in their own half.

  16. PENALTY - Australia 12-0 New Zealandpublished at 18 mins

    Jonathan Thurston

So disheartening for the Kiwis. They responded really well to Australia's opening try and had a great chance to score but now find themselves 10 points behind. Make that 12 as some indiscipline gives Thurston the easiest of penalties in front of the posts.

Darius Boyd's inclusion so far has been absolutely immense. He knew the pass for the first try and then for the second try he hit the line.

Every single pass went straight to hand. There was no need to check stride. It was executed perfectly. The skill level of that try was phenomenal.

  19. try

TRY - Australia 10-0 New Zealandpublished at 15 mins

    Josh Dugan

That is the difference. When the Aussies get an opportunity they make it count.

New Zealand break through Shaun Johnson - bursting through two tackles - but he lacks decent support and loses possession with a lose pass.

Having broken themselves, the Aussies get within distance of the line, work the ball wide and Darius Boyd's superb pass allows Josh Dugan to cross.

    Australia 6-0 New Zealand

Ah, that's a shame for New Zealand. After repeat sets a handling error out wide relinquishes the pressure and gives the Aussies the feed into the scrum and some respite from defending.
