    Australia 6-0 New Zealand

Following the dropout kick from the Aussies, the Kiwis come again. Bromwich twists and turns in search of a way to muscle over the line but he is held up in the try area by three Aussie men. Great spell for the men in black, this.

Boyd has to put the ball behind from Johnson's grubber on tackle five. The Kiwis are knocking on the door.

    Australia 6-0 New Zealand

The Aussies may have started superbly but they have looked a bit ragged in the last couple of minutes. A knock-on relinquishes possession back to the Kiwis in the gold and green half.

I wouldn't say Blake Ferguson's try was greeted with silence but it wasn't far off.

Perhaps the crowd - many of them neutrals hoping for a good game - are sensing this is going to be back like the one-way World Cup final of 2013 when the Kangaroos won 34-2, rather than a rip-roaring upset, of which we've seen a few in recent years.

Some big hits going in now. Dogged defence from the Aussies keep the Kiwis out. But only just. An outrageous little flicked pass from Adam Blair keeps the move alive on the last but the kick goes out of play.

    Australia 6-0 New Zealand

New Zealand win a penalty as Australia hold on too long into the tackle. They want to take it quickly, but instead take a pause and kick successfully for touch.

It's a short pitch so the kicking game will be crucial. I'm really looking forward to this game. It could be a classic.

That's a marvellous try. The error was forced by the Australians' aggressive defence.

CONVERTED TRY - Australia 6-0 New Zealandpublished at 2 mins

    Blake Ferguson

Well, that didn't take long. Having completed their first set, Australia force the error from Rapana to have the feed into the scrum.

From there they seize their chance, spotting the opening wide left to buy space for Ferguson to go in in the corner.

Jonathan Thurston converts - just - from the sideline.

Ah, the Haka. One of the finest sights in sport. Obviously, as an opponent the only response is to look as unflustered as possible, which the Aussies do with aplomb.

There's a laser focus from the Aussies on getting that world No.1 spot and that's frightening from a New Zealand point of view.

It is not just a Four Nations crown up for grabs today.

An Australia win this afternoon will see them replace New Zealand as the world's number one side.

For the record, England are third... in what is essentially a three-team contest.

We started in Hull and end today in Liverpool, or, to be more specific, at Anfield, the home of Premier League joint leaders Liverpool.

The pitch has be shortened down to 91m from the regulation length of 100m in order to maintain a 5m in-goal area and 3m gap before the fence. The reasons for this hinging around safety.

It will be interesting to see how this might affect the style of the game itself. Kiwi prop Jesse Bromwich has suggested we could have a forward's battle on our hands.

Here come the teams, greeted to the pitch by fireworks and bursts of smoke. Never let it be said that rugby league doesn't know how to employ a pyrotechnic.
