The old stager Danny McGuire clipped over a one-pointer on the cusp of the hooter to give Leeds a two-score lead going into the break.

Leeds will be delighted with how the first 40 went. They scored through Tom Briscoe who got up brilliantly above Jy Hitchcox to score. They were later denied by the video referee as well.

They have dominated field position and have made slightly fewer errors.

Castleford Tigers have not been able to implement their usual game, credit for that goes to Leeds.

Luke Gale has not been able to impose himself. So far, they need to find their rhythm. There was a little spell where you thought they might be in the ascendancy but didn't make it pay.

Jesse Sene-Lefao goes into contact but the ball again just squirts out. Cas' error rate is high.

Leeds have another chance to press Castleford before the half-time hooter.

Was it fair that try wasn’t given? You be the judge. But instead of a potential 12-point cushion going in at the break, Tom Briscoe has a painful-looking meeting with the advertising hoarding.

What was that I was saying about the in-goal areas at Old Trafford?

They were looking at whether there was an obstruction - but Tom Briscoe and Paul McShane have gone shoulder to shoulder. There's no pulling. You're allowed to push. I'm sure Brian McDermott, if he gets the win, will not be questioning that, but I'm unsure on that call.

Tom Briscoe denied! He put a hand on Paul McShane as they chased a kick in behind on the free-play. Enough for the score to be chalked off.

The really short in-goals here aren't great. Tom Briscoe went skidding into it heavily. Four gone upstairs!

    Cas again still in this.

Jy Hitchcox chases a Luke Gale grubber and looks like he gets there! Was there obstruction in the build up? Well it looked as though Phil Bentham deemed the dummy run by Oliver Holmes was a distraction.

Still 6-0 then. Cas growing in confidence...

I've seen more of Castleford Tigers this season in my work for BBC Radio Leeds than any other team, and I would never rule them out of a contest.

They were 14-0 down against Catalans in the league and roared back.

Forward pass lets them down as Cas are so close to the line. But Leeds cough up the pill shortly after. It's getting a bit scrappy now.

The errors are starting to go against Leeds now - is the game starting to turn towards Castleford? In big games like this, little moments like Danny McGuire's save can change games. Errors are a given when the conditions are like this, but you can't help but feel this is a tie the side with the best kicking game and field position will win.

Castleford get away with a ball squirming loose. They're in sight of the 10 metres. Matt Cook stopped in front of the posts.

Great kick in behind by Ben Roberts leaves Jack Walker with one option, tap it dead. Leeds drop out.

    Cas get the ball back...

Danny McGuire with a sublime try-saver on Greg Eden. Try 42 was in the headlights. Massive lunging tackle, to see the ball squirt from Eden's grasp.

Castleford so close. Sweeping move left. Leeds' lead remains intact.

At some point, Leeds are going to have to take advantage of the field position and errors Castleford are giving them. Leeds probably need a few more points to settle down, otherwise there's always a risk Castleford will come back in. Leeds let Castleford off there with their own error.

Kallum Watkins makes an error as Leeds again closed in on the Cas line.

Castleford's forwards looking to lay the platform. Eventually they make it to half-way.

Not quite the execution so far. Bit clunky. Last tackle ends with a Luke Gale kick that Jack Walker pouches. However, Tom Briscoe escorts Ben Roberts off the ball. Penalty!

Liam Sutcliffe spills the ball to give Castleford a massive let-off. The exhale of breath from the Stretford End will no doubt be audible.

Castleford running aground on the end of their sets, kicks down field are being returned with aplomb by Leeds.

Still a tight contest as Kallum Watkins almost shreds his way through. Leeds then pin Jesse Sene-Lefao in goal and Castleford will again drop out from under their posts.

Leeds are winning the energy battle. Huge effort. Smart play.

Leeds are having a crack at Castleford's middle and using Danny McGuire. We've just seen Adam Milner and Jesse Sane-Lefao coming to the bench looking bedraggled - and that's the tactic that will get Leeds through this. They will have to aim to face Greg Minikin and try and be direct.

Danny McGuire again just slices a kick down the line and into touch to give Castleford a heck of a job of breaking out.

Michael Shenton's battle with Kallum Watkins has been key so far.

Cas chuck the ball away again in their own half, Grant Millington the culprit. They are lacking rhythm here... Leeds close!

Leeds have lost Adam Cuthbertson to injury for the moment. Tough on the Rhinos. He looks in some anguish.

Cas looking to shift the ball wide, then kick to Jack Walker who mops up neatly.

We've not seen enough of Luke Gale, or the expansive game from the Tigers at the moment.

What a let off for Cas! Had that try been given, it would have been a nightmare start for them and the fairytale could have been under threat without so much as a whimper.

That being said, as we saw in last week’s semi-final against St Helens, there’s a lot of fight in the Tigers this season.

Can they get back into this? I think you’d have to have a heart of stone – or be a Leeds fan - to say no.

Leeds head coach Brian McDermott will be chuffed so far. His team have executed a really strong gameplan. Running hard, keeping it simple and hoisting some wickedly testing kicks to Castleford's back-three.

Grant Millington is going to be massive for the Tigers, his ball-handling skills create attacking dimensions for Daryl Powell's side.

Leeds work the Cas defence over and then another deft kick goes in behind, tracked by Kallum Watkins.

It was sent up as a try... but the video review showed the ball came away from Watkins' hands as he sought to ground it.

Let off for Castleford. They need to make that their turning point because Leeds are dominant.
