I like the look of Josh Ralph. He's teasing this Ireland defence and looking very dangerous.

    Wales 0-22 Ireland

Wales have looked better since the break. But they held firm for most of the first before tiring in the scorching Perth heat.

It's tipping 30 out there, so will it be the same in the second 40?

Brad Singleton comes in with a big shot to end a Wales attack in full flow, and Shannon McDonnell dives on a loose ball to win Ireland possession back.

Experienced play from Shannon McDonnell and Scott Grix as the latter makes his way back over Ireland's own try line following a searching grubber kick from Josh Ralph.

The Irish make some good territory, reaching half way, but that's given away by Joe Philbin.

Wales go blind with two tackles to play, but the kick is mopped up superbly by Ed Chamberlain and a rare Welsh attack comes to nothing.

    Wales 0-22 Ireland

Well, for all that energy in the first few minutes of this half, Wales give away a penalty and hand Ireland another chance to gain ground.

George King scuttles forward, but Liam Finn's pass is behind three Irish players and the momentum of the attack is stemmed.

    Wales 0-22 Ireland

Kyle Amor powers within 20 metres of the Wales line and Liam Finn tries to grubber a kick into the path of Joe Philbin.

Wales scoop up the loose ball. First attack dealt with, and they are up quickly to pin Ireland in their own half after another successful set ends with a long, ranging boot downfield.

  7. 'Imperative for Wales to start well'published at 08:44 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2017

It's absolutely imperative that Wales start this half well. They're not out of this game, but they'll have to put in their best 40 minutes of rugby league in the last two or three years to win this game.

    Wales 0-22 Ireland

A good, solid start from Wales. They make decent ground before Josh Ralph kicks deep into the Ireland half.

It's well gathered, and now we'll get to see if Ireland can continue that intensity from the first half.

    Time for the second half.

Can Wales turn this one around? They'll get the first set in this second 40...

So Ireland are looking good at the break with a 22-0 lead over Wales, but both sides have only got 40 minutes of their World Cup remaining as they head home after Papua New Guinea sealed top spot in Group C.

England, meanwhile, will hope their tournament is only just getting started, and they face a France side without a win to their name immediately after this one in Perth.

    That's the break.

A dominant performance from Ireland, who look like bowing out with another good win.

Ireland could end this World Cup with two victories from three games, but they're already out of the competition following Papua New Guinea's win over the USA earlier.

Liam Finn has grown his reputation in the game in his latter years. He came through the Castleford ranks, did not quite make it there, and worked with Daryl Powell at Featherstone.

From that moment, the last six or seven years have been really positive. He is 34-years-old now but still has the ability to control games.

    Liam Finn (38 mins)

And there it is. From Wales pressure at one end, to an Ireland try at the other.

It was a superb, flowing break from the Irish as Scott Grix and Matty Hadden took the chance to open their legs, and there was Liam Finn backing up to roll over the line under Welsh pressure.

    Wales 0-18 Ireland

You'd imagine Wales will be glad to get to the break.

Regan Grace has been one source of success for them, but the winger can't wriggle free of a number of Irish shirts as he looks to break into the opposition half.

Joe Burke is stopped, as is Craig Kopczak, and that's a little more positive from Wales - although the ball is eventually lost and Ireland come again.

    Iestyn Harris

I feel like a broken record - but there is a lack of discipline from Wales. This time it was Joe Burke giving a needless penalty on the last tackle.

That is a tough one to take just before half-time and a long way back now for the Welsh.

  19. converted try

CONVERTED TRY - Wales 0-18 Irelandpublished at 33 mins

    Joe Philbin (33 mins)

Wales' discipline is dropping. Joe Burke gives away another penalty and the intensity on their line increases.

Ireland make them pay, and it's Joe Philbin off the bench who touches down between the sticks.

The forward gathers at speed after Api Pewhairangi had picked up from dummy half and Wales can't stop the Warrington man.

    Liam Finn adds the extras.

  20. 'Penalties hurting Wales'published at 08:17 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2017

    Wales 0-6 Ireland

    Iestyn Harris
Former Great Britain and Wales international on Radio 5 live sports extra

It was the penalties that hurt Wales and gave free position to Ireland, 60 metres they gained from the back-to-back penalties.

Ireland have way too much quality in their side if you give them a helping hand.

It was a long reach from Oliver Roberts to finish the try.

At 12-0, Wales are still in the game and they need to stay in the fight for the second half, but another score for Ireland in this half and the game is done and dusted.
