"I thought Josh Hodgson started really well. But James Roby is a different player and Wayne Bennett will have to decide who's better for next week's game. James Roby offers honesty and is a dangerous running threat when he's with the ball. This is the team now, I think. The spine of the team, I'd say, would be Gareth Widdop, Kevin Brown, Luke Gale and Sean O'Loughlin. I think Sean has been insane and exceptional this tournament."

  3. 'We have to fix up ball control'published at 07:09 Greenwich Mean Time 19 November 2017

FT: England 36-6 Papua New Guinea

England full-back Gareth Widdop: "PNG are a great team who have had a lot of success and it was a tough game today.

"I'm very pleased with the win but we need to fix up a lot of areas of ball control - at the moment that is not good enough.

"I'm happy wherever I get put and I will wait and see what Wayne decides."

"The key player for me is Gareth Widdop. I think he's got that X-factor, and when you need to score tries Widdop is your man."

"I think McGillvary has been the best player in the tournament. He's big and strong and balanced. It's the carries that I love. There's nobody else in rugby that can do that. Kallum Watkins instinctively supports him. For me Jermaine was man of the match."

"I think we've been pretty positive really. I think we're capable of winning this tournament. The boys will be critical because they will want to improve."

  8. 'Scratchy at times'published at 07:05 Greenwich Mean Time 19 November 2017

FT: England 36-6 Papua New Guinea

England centre Kallum Watkins: "We are happy with the result, the performance was scratchy at times, especially in the first half.

"With the ball in the first half we were pretty poor but we were better in the second and scored some nice tries.

"We are really excited to be in the semi-finals and continue the journey. Tonga will be excited and have a massive crowd in New Zealand. It should be a great battle."

Paul Brown: Great win for England. Plenty of errors but get them all out the way before our next massive game against Tonga. Well done fella's.

We can't give Tonga those opportunities. They're bigger and stronger [than PNG] and we have to be disciplined. They're a better quality. If we make mistakes they will come at us all day.

The challenge is to reduce the number of errors but you can almost get a bit obsessed with it and it's a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Would I play George Williams next week if Kevin Brown does not play?

You've got to be careful with Williams because he's not a runner with the ball. You couldn't move Widdop from full-back because there's no one better in the squad. So no, you can't change Gareth Widdop.

Wayne Bennett would probably give that five out of 10. They made far too many errors but they understand the stakes next week. The three things I keep banging on about are the kicking which needs to improve, the execution and their discipline. England just need to stitch that all together.

5/10 is a bit harsh. I would have gone six. 36-6 - it's job done. I think we've got enough to beat Tonga by playing like this. But if we can turn up in a final in a fortnight's time ad those errors don't happen, we're in with a chance

Sometimes when we get a bit negative it's because we expect England to go deep. They are a very talented team and if they put it together they could win this World Cup.

Seven tries to one, 55% possession. 56% completion rate. 20 errors.

But England are in the last four.

Australia remain the favourites, they play Fiji. But England and Tonga will both have their say.
