    Ryan Hall, con Gareth Widdop

Ryan Hall joins the party with his 34th in 35 appearances. Gareth Widdop the provider, Hall the recipient.

England ice the cake, Widdop pops a cherry on the top. Tasty.

    England 30-6 Papua New Guinea

England get a penalty. This game is cooked now, Papua New Guinea has been overcome.

James Roby deserves a try. Nearly got one there but held up over the line. England have tackles left in the 10.

Don't get me wrong, no-one will be whooping and hollering about this performance by England but when compared with Tonga squeaking past Lebanon and New Zealand being dumped out by Fiji...

Oh no... Sean O'Loughlin in a bit of trouble in back-play. Get him off and on ice.

20 errors for England. 52% completion rate. But unlike Lebanon and New Zealand and Samoa... we're heading for the semis.

In the old days if any part of the body touched the corner post it was a no-try. Now, it doesn't matter. If it had been no try it would have been a penalty to England because the defender contested when the ball was in the air.

Fair play to PNG, who have never stopped trying - and they were rewarded with this score from Garry Lo.

  6. try

TRY England 30-6 Papua New Guineapublished at 72 mins

    Kallum Watkins

    England

Brilliant finish by Kallum Watkins, taking to the air to ground the ball one-handed in the corner. Stunning.

Jermaine McGillvary by the way was clattered in the air but being a ball of absolute muscle that he is, he shrugged it off and fizzed a ball to Watkins.

Nice kick from Josh Hodgson. It's been scrappy but England have scored SIX tries.

  7. TRY REVIEWpublished at 72 mins

    England 26-6 Papua New Guinea

Josh Hodgson kick on the last after England race downfield, Jermaine McGillvary gathers and flicks it to Kallum Watkins who goes airborne... did he score?

  8. NO TRYpublished at 70 mins

    England 26-6 Papua New Guinea

The most glorious of switch passes to put Willie Minoga in is to no avail after Ben Currie was impeded by a dummy runner in the build up.

Technicalities but it's all in the laws. England survive.

Lovely inside ball puts Willie Minoga in... is there obstruction? We'll find out.

I would take Jermaine McGillvary off the field now and wrap him in cotton wool for next week. He's just been unstoppable today.

McGillvary just looks so powerful. The way he eats up metres, it's just not a normal sort of run. It's a run that's so balanced. It's incredible.

  12. try

TRY England 26-6 Papua New Guineapublished at 68 mins

    Kallum Watkins, con Gareth Widdop

    England

PNG fatigue sees Jermaine McGillvary go scything through the middle, cutting the Kumuls wide open.

As the options start to run dry for the winger, he spots Kallum Watkins on his shoulder and a perfectly timed pass puts the gazelle-like centre away for a simple score.

Brilliant try from England. Like a diamond in the rough of this second-half.

    England 20-6 Papua New Guinea

England go forward again with Jermaine McGillvary. Like a saw through wood. Then James Roby.

Sean O'Loughlin spills the ball, after a misslie-like tackle from Nene MacDonald. They come flying out do the Kumuls.

    Their ball.

    England 20-6 Papua New Guinea

Great kick by Luke Gale pegs PNG back in their own end again, right by the goalline.

England up in the chase ready to clatter some Kumuls.

Strange sensation about this game, not that tense, you feel like England are comfortable but PNG still a threat.

  16. Postpublished at 64 mins

    England 20-6 Papua New Guinea

England try to put a bit of shape on PNG on their right edge but the Kumuls do well to jam across and stop Kallum Watkins getting the ball away.

All about limiting territory here and getting them to turn over in a profitable position.

England haven't had much or any ball in this second half, and they just need more ball down in the attacking 30m area.

PNG are resilient, but with the score 20-6 they'll still be living on hope at the moment. The next 10 minutes will be really vital here.
