Day one of the 2018 Magic Weekend ends and what a match to finish on! Castleford absolutely tore Leeds apart in front of a bumper crowd at St James' Park.

Tomorrow, Salford take on Catalans in the first of three games on day two. Wakefield then take on Huddersfield before Magic Weekend ends for another season with a tasty Hull derby between Hull Kingston Rovers and Hull FC.

    FT: Castleford 38-10 Leeds

Leeds Rhinos head coach Brian McDermott told Sky Sports:

"I thought it was soft in the first half. I haven't said that about my team too often.

"It has to be said that we're missing a lot of our big men this year and it starts to have an effect.

"But that doesn't account for the 38 points they scored. Cas come out the blocks brilliant but we invited them to be good."

  3. 'We will build on Leeds victory'published at 21:34 British Summer Time 19 May 2018

    FT: Castleford 38-10 Leeds

Castleford Tigers head coach Daryl Powell told Sky Sports:

"We thought we'd played well today. It's a great atmosphere that brings out the best in us. I thought we started the game really well.

"We didn't kick the ball that well and came up with a few errors but our go forward and pack were great and it was a solid team performance.

"It was closer to the 80 minutes than we've put in recently so we'll build on that."

Castleford will be really happy because it's been a different type of performance.

The game plan became more apparent as the game went on and the players executed it very well indeed, which led to such a comprehensive victory.

That Castleford carried the ball and defended with such great intent will be a great bonus for them as well.

Leeds will be very disappointed. It was a poor, poor performance and I'm sure there will be some harsh words spoken around Headingley this week.

And no sooner than Richie Myler misses the conversion does the full-time hooter sound around St James' Park.

Castleford have well and truly avenged that Super League Grand Final defeat from last year and they have given Leeds a thumping at the Magic Weekend.

Fortunately for Leeds, Castleford squander their chance to break the 40-point barrier.

And to add insult to injury for the Tigers, Mike McMeeken sees yellow and will end this game in the bin.

Ah, it's not Leeds' night tonight.

Matt Parcell tries his best to latch onto a quick pass but he fumbles and knocks on, giving Castleford another six tackles, with about 10 yards to make up to the tryline.

This has been a measured performance from Castleford and big tick for the game plan, which has been executed perfectly.

The two half-backs and full-back are all out position but are all looking equally at home and if they get in that Grand Final position like last year with a bit of adversity, they have people who can cover those positions with no problem at all.

It's incredible to think Castleford were well beaten against St Helens in the Challenge Cup last weekend.

They've been excellent tonight and it's not inconceivable to see them add to their tally this evening.

    10 minutes remain.

    Dave Woods

Castleford are romping this now. It's not quite the breathtaking style in which they took Leeds apart at the Jungle last year but it might be pushing towards that scoreline.

    Oliver Holmes

    Goodnight Vienna.

Leeds 'ain't coming back from this. Oliver Holmes is the latest Castleford player to get on the scoresheet and this time it's lovely drive to the tryline that does the business.

Jamie Ellis fails to add his eighth goal of the match, however.

Jack Walker's come off for Leeds Rhinos and he's got ice on his knee on the bench.

Kallum Watkins has gone into the dressing room to receive treatment and Nathan Peteru has also been sidelined for the Rhinos.

It's not been a great night for the reigning Super League champions.

    Yet another Castleford try..

Castleford are on fire tonight and there's absolutely no let up from the Tigers. Adam Milner picks the ball up and grounds over the line right under the posts on his 198th appearance for Cas.

Jamie Ellis makes no mistake in adding the extras.

Uh oh. Kallum Watkins has come off worse in a tackle with Castleford's Adam Milner and he appears to have done some damage to his knee.

He remained down and looked a bit discombobulated as he received treatment but he miraculously gets up and walks off the field.

Sheer power shown here. Mikolaj Oledzki gets Leeds over the line and off the mark, finally!

Kallum Watkins adds the extras and Leeds are on their way. There's just about enough time to mount a comeback. Can they do it?

Greg Minikin attempts to collect a high ball but knocks on. Leeds play on and Cameron Smith grinds his way to the line but he's held up.

Matt Parcell goes over finally, but there's no try given on the field so it goes upstairs. Is there an obstruction? Video ref James Child seems to think so and no try is given.

Still nothing for the Leeds fans to cheer.

Huge tackle on Jack Walker from Michael Shenton. It's incredible the Leeds youngster was able to get up from that. I'd be hauled off.

Meanwhile, Matt Parcell comes agonisingly close to getting Leeds off the mark after breaking 50 metres upfield, but Paul McShane is on hand to keep him from going over.
