    Wigan 14-4 Warrington

What a try that could have been. Warrington back Bryson Goodwin jinks his way through and almost scores what could have been a sensational solo try.

But the New Zealand international trips just before reaching the try-line.

    What a shame!

Credit to Wigan for tapping the ball on the penalty and running the ball on the last tackle to keep the Warrington defence honest.

    Sam Tomkins, goal Sam Tomkins

George Williams comes to within an inch of scoring a quickfire Wigan try but he's well held up.

But super Sam Tomkins gets his sixth try of the season as he swerves and slithers his way through to touch down in the corner. Wonderful.

The Wigan full-back, who's playing in his final Magic Weekend for the club before joining Catalans Dragons next season, easily converts his own try.

Wigan have not lost at a Magic Weekend since their 57-16 thumping by St Helens in Cardiff in 2008.

They are narrowly ahead, but can they extend that record for another year?

  5. try

TRY: Wigan 8-4 Warringtonpublished at 25 mins

    Sam Powell, goal Sam Tomkins

Sam Powell looks to have just about grounded the ball near to the tryline and his momentum carries him to the line.

Referee Rob Hicks initially gives a try but goes to video referee James Child for confirmation.

It's given! Just about! Controversial but Powell has his first try of the season. Sam Tomkins adds another two points with an easy kick right in front of the posts.

    Wigan 2-4 Warrington

Wigan are hungry for a try and there's no let up here. Warrington use up six tackles and make hardly any ground.

Kevin Brown tries his best to kick as far upfield as possible and manages a tepid effort that sails about an inch past the halfway line.

    Wigan 2-4 Warrington

This is a fabulous contest between two excellent sides. This time Wigan break up field and attempt to find a way through a sea of blue and yellow shirts.

Ben Flower decides he's had enough of Wigan trying to dance their way around them and tries to sprint to the line. He's held up, offloads to Sam Tomkins, who can't quite find a way through before their six tackles are up.

End to end stuff and I'm loving this. Great atmosphere, too!

    Wigan 2-4 Warrington

Sitaleki Akauola makes a run in towards the line but it takes four Wigan players to hold him up.

Meanwhile, Kevin Brown is held by Joel Tomkins and the Warrington man pushes his face away and there's a bit of a ruckus and pushing and shoving. Naughty naughty!

The Wire concede a penalty and the game is back under way.

Harvey Livett scores for WarringtonImage source, Rex Features

I've just seen a television replay of Harvey Livett's try from another angle and he does superbly well to twist and turn his way past the Wigan backline to ground the ball. If I tried that I'd be aching for days!

Warrington are good value for their try and continue to press Wigan from the restart. Can they get another score on the board soon?

  10. try

TRY: Wigan 2-4 Warringtonpublished at 12 mins

    Harvey Livett

A sustained amount of Warrington pressure results in Wigan being caught offside and the Wire win a penalty.

They run it along the width of the pitch and back again and Ryan Atkins is held agonisingly short of driving over the line.

Superb defending but it's not enough, as Warrington keep pressing and are rewarded when Harvey Livett crosses.

    Wigan 2-0 Warrington

Liam Farrell almost makes what could have been a costly mistake for Wigan as he almost concedes possession on the halfway line to his former team-mate Josh Charnley.

A forward pass is given and the Wire win the ball back and drive towards the line and John Bateman has to kick the ball dead as Warrington pounce.

That was like a six-inch putt in golf. It was a gimme for Wigan.

If you've got a gimme take it.

  13. PENALTY: Wigan 2-0 Warringtonpublished at 5 mins

    Sam Tomkins

Ouch! Sitaleki Akauola puts a really high tackle in on Sam Powell and Wigan win a penalty right in front of the sticks.

Sam Tomkins makes no mistake with the boot and edges the Cherry and Whites into a two-point lead.

    Wigan v Warrington (17:15 BST)

Tyrone Roberts is no stranger to playing in front of a big crowd, having joined Warrington from National Rugby League side Gold Coast Titans last year.

But how has he coped with the transition from the big-money NRL to the home of rugby league?

"I thought that coming to Super League would be a great challenge for myself and once you're here you see how many obstacles you have to overcome," he told BBC Sport.

"You've got the conditions and the cup and it's a great experience for me but I'm looking forward to the Magic Weekend.

"It's a spectacular event to hold in Newcastle and it's great for the fans."
