    Wigan 0-0 Warrington

Wigan knock on close to their line! Dan Sarginson couldn't hold the Kevin Brown kick.

There's been some excellent work in that set - Brown sliced his way through ball and the ball was then switched through Tyrone Roberts and Bryson Goodwin, Tom Lineham straddles across field and some huge defensive efforts stopped him.

    Better from the Wire.

    Wigan 0-0 Warrington

Wigan causing problems on the last with a steepling kick that Sam Tomkins chased and dumped back. Warrington let-off by poor execution as the ball is turned over.

Daryl Clark is starting to set the tone with some scoots from dummy-half. He's held too long and Wire get a penalty.

So far, no points but Wigan dominating the field position.

Warrington make some big headway through the middle on the back of some hard carries by Chris Hill and Mike Cooper.

However, Stefan Ratchford's clip ahead into space sails straight into Sam Tomkins' hands. Easy metres for the Warriors.

    Wigan 0-0 Warrington

Wigan again rumble their way within range, Warrington scrambling desperately in defence.

What have they got on the last? They wing it wide-right and when it looked like Wigan were going to exploit the overlap, they knock-on, Warrington survive.

    Wigan 0-0 Warrington

Wigan claw their way into the Warrington 10 with some grapplehook sharp carries that split the defence.

However, when they finally got there they ran out of ideas.

That said, some ferocious line-speed again gets in Warrington faces and Ben Westwood spills.

    Wigan scrum, 15 out.

You've got to get in front in a final because you can control the pace and the way you want to play, you don't need to be chasing the game.

This is so tight to call, there are so many good players on this field.

It's going to be fireworks in the first 15-20 minutes, whoever gets in front will go on to win.

My heart says Warrington, my head says Wigan.

    Wigan 0-0 Warrington

John Bateman knocks on in the tackle but he was absolutely belted by Ben Westwood. It's the kind of night where the little one-percenters like that pay-off.

Warrington get the ball on half-way with the scrum. Can they make the position pay? No. Bryson Goodwin with a loose carry in return.

Might be worth a little lesson in wet-weather, boring, up the jumper, one out rugby league. It's getting expansive fairly quickly.

Warrington skipper Chris Hill might have missed a trick here.

He won the toss and his side are attacking towards their fans in the first half.

Should have gone the other way, no?

    Wigan 0-0 Warrington

Wigan get their first turn to have a pop making their way to half-way but Sam Tomkins has to slug the ball away on the last in midfield.

Warrington pour forward again. It's proper hammer and tongs stuff.

    Wigan 0-0 Warrington

Savage first carry from Mike Cooper dents the Wigan line and the big pack follows suit in Ben Westwood and Chris Hill.

Wigan roar up in line-speed and we've rattled through the first set in about 25 seconds. Absolutely belting.

The roar goes up, the whistle blows in Robert Hicks' mouth as the hooter sounds.

    Huddles done, backs slapped.

This is rugby league's big showpiece. Let's hope we put on a feast.

Wigan get us underway, Warrington to field the ball.

Those burst of flames are right at the other end of the pitch but such is the ferocity of it that you can feel it kissing your face.

Need to check if I've still got any eyebrows left.

One end packed primrose and blue, the other chocka cherry and white.

    Let's get it on...

I have to admit, it was quite melodic. The last Blossoms track. Plus the fella was playing a Rickenbacker.

Now it's time for Jerusalem. Laura Wright in fine fettle. Beautiful.

Flying Pig Lineham brings home the bacon in Warrington win

    Here you go Wires.

It wasn't supposed to be this way. St Helens were the odds-on favourites. Warrington were written off, cannon-fodder for an all-conquering Saints to achieve their promise.

However, sport doesn't run to script.

This game was a slow-burner, as both sides toiled in attack and stiffened up in defence. It was proper arm-wrestle stuff with a 3-2 half-time score.

Saints built on their lead after half-time, capitalising on an error to score through Luke Douglas, but Warrington fought back through Jack Hughes' score and then lead when Tom Lineham crossed.

Danny Richardson, who had guided Saints to victory with his boot earlier in the campaign, nudged the lead back in their favour...

...but Lineham, nicknamed the Flying Pig, scored a late second try to turn the game around and send Warrington off to Old Trafford.

Shaun Wane's Wigan have sometimes been accused of a bit of dark arts, but I doubt they've got the dark side in their midst, despite this fella.

Can he see, that'd be the question I'm asking, in that helmet?

  19. No9: Broncos buck Toronto trendpublished at 17:52 British Summer Time 13 October 2018

Toronto 2-4 London Broncos - Sunday, 7 October

    Media caption,

London Broncos upset the form book, beating Toronto Wolfpack to return to Super League

It was the meeting of two outposts, two major cities on the back whom rugby league's global standing could thrive. But only one could go forth into the Super League.

So it was that Toronto Wolfpack - the hipster's choice, the exciting new brand with strong crowds and a genuine buzz - would welcome London Broncos - scarred from past tough campaigns but buzzing again at the forefront of capital rugby along with the Skolars and a burgeoning amateur game.

Unfortunately the game itself failed to live up to the hype. Three goals, two for London saw them come out on top in the Million Pound Game. Toronto would have to go again next year, but for Danny Ward and the Broncos - it is back to the big time in 2019.

It's not bad though, bit of indie.
