England prop James Graham thought it was the right decision for Tomkins to receive no punishment.

    Paul Highton
Former Salford and Wales forward, BBC Radio Manchester

He's living really dangerously is Sam Tomkins. He's turned into a bit of a controversial character at the moment.

He slid in there and he's led with his knees, that's a bad effort. It's the second time in this game that he's thrown those legs into the wrong spot.

For me he needed a yellow card - one because of how naughty leading with the knees is but two I think he needs calming down a little bit.

  4. More of the same?published at 19:11 British Summer Time 13 October 2018

    HT: Wigan 8-4 Warrington

Well it was never going to be a tea party was it? It flared up on the way down the tunnel, it'll flare up again out there in the second-half.

The team who will win it though, in my non-Grand Final winning humble opinion, is the team that controls that aggro. The team that laughs it off, rather than getting involved, will come away with the spoils.

What a boost Oliver Gildart is going to be for England if he comes up with plays like the one that teed up Dom Manfredi.

He has plenty to do tonight thought before he can think about the Kiwis...

England's preparations for the three-Test series against the Kiwis will be tested when they take on France next Wednesday at the Leigh Sports Village.

The lads involved today will be rested but there is still a very strong contingent including the NRL players such as James Graham and Josh Hodgson. Jammer is at the GF watching. How we'd love him back in Super League!

There could also be debuts for Reece Lyne and the prolific Tom Johnstone from Wakefield too.

    Ht: Wigan 8-4 Warrington

    Robbie Hunter-Paul
Former New Zealand international on BBC Radio 5 live

That was a great half of rugby league, there's nothing in the scoreline and both teams have been going hammer and tongs from the get go.

It was a little bit scrappy towards the back end of the half with a lot of errors from both teams but it's set up for a great second-half.

    It's boiling over here.

The Warrington fans are not happy with the contributions of Sam Tomkins, who tripped a player then led with the knees on Daryl Clark, and have let the Wigan full-back know.

Then as the players were heading down the tunnel, there was a lot of pushing and shoving going on, with officials stepping in to intervene.

Just on that final Warrington move, boss Steve Price threw his arms up into the Manchester air in frustration after an attacker ran straight into a Wigan player.

Plenty to sort out for the Wire, they look out of ideas at the moment.

    Iestyn Harris
Former Great Britain and Wales international on BBC Radio 5 live

I guarantee you that on the field it is the most greasy conditions that you'll ever know.

Whenever you play at Old Trafford the ground is always wet, always slippery, the ball is always slippery and you've just got to make sure that you've got that grip on the ball.

  12. Half-timepublished at 40 mins

    Wigan 8-4 Warrington

It's been scrappy, feisty, intense, skilful at times and full of commitment and endeavour.

Warrington took the lead through Josh Charnley, the former Wigan winger making a penalty pay.

Wigan roared back through Dom Manfredi and Tom Davies, they have the lead.

It's all to play for, it'll take absolute effort and determination to settle this.

    Wigan 8-4 Warrington

Ben: The in-goal areas at Old Trafford aren't big enough for rugby in my view. Can totally understand Warrington running it on the last tackle as a result.

Kyle: Some of the last tackle options from Warrington are really poor, they need to apply more pressure get a repeat set. Being tackled continuously on the last tackle is poor play.

Agree Ben, it's been a long-standing issue. The in-goals at that Kiwis-Roos Test this morning were bigger than goalline to 10!

Morgan Escare, who must be in the 75kg weight class, is one of the players to receive a talking to. Certainly punching above his weight, the little Wigan full-back.

Warrington have it in midfield. Two and a half minutes to land a blow before half-time. Again, it crumbles as Wigan force Ben Murdoch-Masila into a loose carry.

    It's a bit scrappy innit?

Chris Hill spills. It's a release of the valve.

Followed by a Oliver Gildart spill. Bryson Goodwin makes the challenge.

It sparks a flurry of bodies all shoving and making nuisance. Frustrations to the fore.

Ben Murdoch-Masila has a go on the opposite edge.

Wigan bat it dead through Oli Gildart. Warrington want points before the break. They'll get the ball from the drop out.

  19. 'Most resilient defence'published at 35 mins

    Wigan 8-4 Warrington

    Ray French

Whenever Wigan have been performing this season, you have to really work hard to break down that defence.

It's the most resilient one in the game and it saved them there again.

Tommy Leuluai's eye looks a bit sore. Morgan Escare comes on. There might be a shuffle of pivots in personnel.

Wigan receive the ball from the turnover, but two tackles in they've spilled it!

Warrington rap each other on the back enthusiastically. They can turn the screw here.
