    Jon Wilkin

He should have taken it. If he does, Regan Grace goes the full length and it would have been curtains on this game.

    Catalans need points here.

    St Helens 16-0 Catalans

Catalans get a repeat set and foist their way into the Saints 10.

They're banging on the door, Sam Kasiano has been spitting out offloads like the old Subbuteo rugby scrum machine. No-one quite knows where it's going to end up.

Then a big whizz wide to the Catalans right is almost picked off by Regan Grace but it's a repeat set for the French club.

Sam Kasiano threw a pass away in midfield which St Helens were able to take control of, and it's produced another Saints score.

Catalans could not cope with the movement, and as Jonny Lomax shoved a short ball in his direction, Zeb Taia romped through the gap to dot down against his old club.

    Saints in full control.

    St Helens 10-0 Catalans

In the end, despite repeat sets, St Helens couldn't quite find the gap in the Catalans defence.

The linespeed was rapid as they came steaming up to put tackles in.

And now the visitors have lost hooker Micky Mcllorum who has failed his head injury assessment.

    St Helens 10-0 Catalans

The pace of this game has been telling.

Josh Drinkwater knocks on at a Catalans play the ball just metres from the line.

Danger for the Dragons. Great position for Saints.

    St Helens 10-0 Catalans

James Graham has been up to talk to St Helens coach Kristian Woolf, having done his stint.

Now Kyle Amor is on, looking a bit like a bearded Eminem circa 1998. Blonde dyed close-crop.

That's the type of update you're here for.

Lachlan Coote is showing his value - getting the ball on last tackles, threading kicks in... he's showing what an asset he is.

He's like a Paul Wellens-style full-back. He coordinates things, links in very well and is defensively very sound too.

  8. try

TRY: St Helens 10-0 Catalanspublished at 26 mins

    James Bentley

Really sharp play from Saints who get their second try of the game, and this time Lachlan Coote is provider.

The Scotland full-back took a pass from Theo Fages, who had initially dummied to go to centre-field, and threaded a grubber.

James Bentley hared after it and got there before the chasing Fouad Yaha to score.

    St Helens 6-0 Catalans

Sam Kasiano and James Graham were previously team-mates at Canterbury Bulldogs.

There was no love lost there though, as Dragons prop Kasiano was pulled up for a knock-on and Graham was happy about it.

He's just given the Saints man a whack in the tackle as Saints come forward...

    St Helens 6-0 Catalans

Saints' game management has been excellent so far.

The last set was a delight of a kick from Lachlan Coote into the corner, which pinned Arthur Mourgue back, and the chase stalled his progress.

Meanwhile, Remi Casty has just been the subject of a slobberknocker of a hit from Morgan Knowles. Hope Headingley's foundations are secure because it's been bell-ringing fare in defence.

    St Helens 6-0 Catalans

Catalans get their kick away on the last but Josh Drinkwater puts in on the head of Tommy Makinson and the Saints winger can take it in easily.

Arthur Mourgue does a great job on the return Saints set, stopping the ball from going out for a 40/20 off the boot of James Roby and keeping himself in the field of play.

Catalans chucking this ball about but James Maloney's last tackle kick clears the lines rather than continues an attack.

    St Helens 6-0 Catalans

First error of the game really and it's James Graham looking to put Morgan Knowles through with a short-ball at the line. Knocked on.

Remi Casty is down receiving treatment. Normally that would be a scrum, of course in Super League 2020 2.0 it's just a play-the-ball.

Takes some getting your head around.

    St Helens 6-0 Catalans

    Jon Wilkin
Ex-St Helens captain on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

We're 17 minutes in, Catalans have got a big side and a few of their bigger guys are visibly tiring. I'd expect some rotation off the bench from Steve McNamara soon.

  14. try

TRY: St Helens 6-0 Catalanspublished at 15 mins

    Lachlan Coote

    Lachlan CooteImage source, PA Media

A quite magnificent piece of skill from Zeb Taia sets up Lachlan Coote to scamper through and hold off the cover to score.

It was a catch and pass tip on from the back-rower to hit the onrushing Coote back on the inside - catching Catalans out totally.

Saints set up the position with an excellent scoot from James Roby and a typical classy offload by James Graham.

    Delicious.

    St Helens 2-0 Catalans

With his beard and tache, Jimmy Maloney looks a bit like a cartoon villain.

Alex Walmsley has just run at Michael McIlorum and I think the tremors could be felt back in St Helens.

    Shuddering collision.

Then as the last-tackle kick is fielded by Tom Davies, Mark Percival comes out like a missile to arrow at the ex-Wigan winger and pin Catalans back.

    Really interesting tussle this.

  16. PENALTY: St Helens 2-0 Catalanspublished at 12 mins

    Lachlan Coote

So the first points of the restart have been notched and it's from the boot of Scotland full-back Lachlan Coote.

No "Coooooooooote" chants to follow of course. That will take some getting used to.

  17. Postpublished at 12 mins

    St Helens 0-0 Catalans

Lachlan Coote gathers a Jimmy Maloney bomb in the in-goal and smothers it for a tap on the 20.

The sets are being knocked out like cans in a pop factory.

Then we saw a six-again. It's quick enough.

Maloney has just put a shot on Morgan Knowles and given up a penalty. It was a misread on a dummy runner. Phew.

  18. Postpublished at 9 mins

    St Helens 0-0 Catalans

Line break by Josh Drinkwater scorches through the Saints middle but again the champions contain the Dragons as they rampage forward.

I expect a few gaps will appear throughout the game, particularly at this pace.

    When will it subside?

  19. Postpublished at 7 mins

    St Helens 0-0 Catalans

Saints bundle Tom Davies into touch after a sweep to the right by James Maloney and Catalans.

Julian Bousquet and Ben Garcia set up the position with surges through the middle. Saints' defensive unit stands tall.

  20. Postpublished at 5 mins

    St Helens 0-0 Catalans

James Bentley looked to be inches away from finishing off a Saints chip into the Catalans in goal but he had the ball pinched off him by Tom Davies.

A debut defensive play to be proud of. Catalans come away.
