Leeds coach Richard Agar told BBC One:

"We have had a terrific week, our focus has been on getting our best performance out today.

"Salford have been in front for six minutes in their two cup ties and have knocked out Catalans and Warrington. We won't be underestimating them."

Kallum Watkins finds himself in familiar surroundings but unfamiliar colours at Wembley today.

The boyhood Salford fan comes up against a Leeds side with whom he won the Challenge Cup in 2014 and 2015.

Earlier this week, he spoke to the BBC’s rugby league correspondent Dave Woods…

Leeds captain Luke Gale told BBC One:

"I used to go on the coach to the Challenge Cup final most years with mum, dad and the family.

"It's quite surreal to fast forward 15 years that I am playing there myself.

"This is the club I used to support as a boy and I used to watch Kevin Sinfield, Jamie Peacock - the golden generation.

"It's a dream come true to lead the boys out on Saturday and a great honour. It is what you dream about as a kid, holding that Challenge Cup."

I’m sure the inspirational Rob Burrow - who is the chief guest "in absentia" for today's final - won’t be far from the thoughts of everyone involved with Leeds today.

Burrow, a winner of countless trophies for the Rhinos over the years, announced in December 2019 that he had been diagnosed with motor neurone disease.

He has spent the past 10 months attempting to raise awareness about the condition, while friends, family and colleagues have taken on all sorts of challenges to raise funds for research and treatment.

A BBC documentary - "Rob Burrow: My Year With MND" - was shown earlier this week and also before today’s Challenge Cup coverage on BBC One. If you missed it, you can watch it now on the BBC iPlayer.

Ben Joy: 5 years ago was there to see our last Wembley appearance in a Challenge Cup final. Gutted can’t be there today. Come on Leeds boys, let’s get the job done again and bring that trophy home!

Neil McGuire: Looking forward to the challenge cup final bit sad to see Wembley empty but it is what it is. Good luck to Leeds Rhinos and Salford - let’s have a great final.

Like Leeds, Salford entered the rejigged competition at the quarter-final stage.

They needed golden-point extra time to get past Catalans Dragons, and then narrowly saw off holders Warrington 24-22 to book their spot at Wembley.

This is quickly becoming a golden age in the history of Salford, a club which has been to the brink and back again over the past couple of decades.

Under one of the brightest coaching talents in the game, Ian Watson, the Red Devils reached an unlikely Super League Grand Final last season and are once more challenging for honours in 2020.

You have to go all of the way back to 1938 for Salford’s only Challenge Cup final success, and 1969 for their most recent appearance in a final.

Leeds are in their first final since 2015, when Tom Briscoe scored five tries in a record-breaking 50-0 win over Hull KR.

They defeated Rovers again in this season’s quarter-final, before a 26-12 win over Wigan in the last four.

Only Wigan (19) have won the Challenge Cup more often than Leeds, who are chasing a 14th victory today.

Since winning the last final at the old-style Wembley in 1999, they have appeared in eight finals but strangely have won only two - in 2014 and 2015.

Rhinos head coach Richard Agar was an assistant to John Kear for Hull FC’s 2005 win, lost as Hull's head coach in 2008 and is hoping to win the prize as the main man for the first time.

Salford’s preparations were affected by two positive Covid-19 tests earlier this week.

Dan Sarginson and Jack Ormondroyd miss out on today's Wembley final as a result.

Captain Lee Mossop and fellow forward Mark Flanagan are both involved after a scare - they had posted inconclusive results earlier in the week, but subsequently tested negative and are therefore available to start.

Both clubs rested players for their midweek Super League fixtures in anticipation of this Challenge Cup final.
