    Wigan 4-4 St Helens

    John Kear
Wales & Bradford Bulls coach on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

This is like a brutal chess match.

Somehow someone will have to make a break to get the field position or a there will have to be a penalty because at the minute both teams are content just to throw the gauntlet down.

Theo Fages tries his luck with a drop-goal attempt from some distance.

The St Helens man's low effort bobbles wayward and Wigan break upfield and Fages concedes a penalty to the Warriors in kicking distance!

    Wigan 4-4 St Helens

Wigan back Bevan French has been superb tonight and he's just reminded us why with a tremendous catch from a high ball while under pressure.

Time's ticking down but neither side are giving anything away. Sensational rugby.

Right then lads, send this to golden point, would you?

    I want more of this.

  5. PENALTY: Wigan 4-4 St Helenspublished at 73 mins

    Lachlan Coote

Jackson Hastings puts in a pretty reckless high tackle in on Theo Fages as St Helens put the pressure on Wigan this time.

Wigan concede a penalty and Lachlan Coote, right in front of the posts, goes for the two.

He makes no mistake and Saints are level again going into the final stages.

What are we saying then? Is that try going to change this game in its closing stages?

Are we going to see something different from St Helens, who are behind for the first time in this match?

They've got 10 minutes to overturn Wigan's narrow lead.

It was smart because he took off with his dive very early and allowed the dew on the grass to help him slide over.

A clever, clever finish from Bibby.

  8. 'No mistake from Bibby'published at 21:39 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2020

    Wigan 4-2 St Helens

    Jack Dearden
    BBC Radio Manchester

Wigan have threatened to do that for the last five minutes.

There was no mistake there from Jake Bibby, it was wonderfully finished off in the corner.

    Wigan 4-2 St Helens

    Ian Chisnall
    Reporter, BBC Radio Merseyside Sport

The pattern has been basically the same as the first half - Saints were the better side in the first half of the first half and Wigan were the better towards the break.

Is it going to be the way of it this time?

TRY: Wigan 4-2 St Helenspublished at 66 mins

    Jake Bibby

Jake Bibby scores for WiganImage source, PA Media

    We finally have a try!

Jake Bibby, successfully this time, runs in at the corner for Wigan as he finds a rare pocket of space.

Zak Hardaker's kick from a tight angle bounces off the crossbar, believe it or not.

A two-point game, then. Wigan might be in front, but there's a long way to go yet.

    Wigan 0-2 St Helens

Tell you who's been excellent tonight. Regan Grace.

The St Helens wing usually makes the headlines for his inspired offensive drives and acrobatic tries at the corner.

But tonight he's put in several crucial tackles to pitch in when Wigan have put the pressure on.

  12. Postpublished at 64 mins

    Wigan 0-2 St Helens

Oh my word. Jake Bibby what are you doing mate?

The Wigan man has all the space in the world in front of him as he picks up the ball on the wing but he stumbles and falls to ground before he can run in for what would have been a certain try.

St Helens are in raptures. That's a huge let off.

  13. Postpublished at 62 mins

    Wigan 0-2 St Helens

It's fair to say that there's a lot going on for such a low scoring game.

In the Wigan attack that follows that spell of play, Joe Burgess fails to latch on to a quick offload, but the Warriors win another set of six deep in St Helens' half of the field.

    Wigan 0-2 St Helens

Dom Peyroux concedes a cynical penalty as he goes in on Joe Burgess as the Wigan man leapt high to regain the ball.

Fortunately for Peyroux, it's deep in Wigan's 10 but the Warriors swiftly break upfield.

Regan Grace runs in to put a tremendous tackle on Zak Hardaker which is impressive enough but moments after that, Wigan hold up Theo Fages into conceding a goal-line drop-out.

These two sides have been going at each other hammer and tongs.

How much petrol will be left in the tank for the final 20 minutes?

At this point, this game is going to come down to the kicking, as there's some superb defensive passages on display here.

Both sides are showing tremendous temperament and you certainly get the feeling that a stray penalty or two could be decisive.

Just over 20 minutes remain. As crucial a 20 minutes as you will see.

  18. Postpublished at 56 mins

    Wigan 0-2 St Helens

My word this is a cracker of a game.

St Helens pile everything at Wigan with wave after wave of attacks and James Roby almost gets to the line but he's held up AGAIN!

Unbelievable. The intensity in this game is phenomenal. Both sides throwing everything they have at each other.

  19. NO TRYpublished at 21:24 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2020

    Wigan 0-2 St Helens

Zeb Taia gets the ball down as St Helens pounce on a rare Wigan lapse in defence.

It goes upstairs as referee Chris Kendall says no try for offside against Taia and it's confirmed.

They don't even look at the grounding and we get going again but Joe Bullock is penalised for a forward pass pretty much on the restart.

    Can Saints capitalise?

Willie Isa smothers Theo Fages as St Helens carry on their spell of pressure.

A bloodied Jackson Hastings heroically retrieves the ball in his own goal area and is swiftly brought down.

Remarkable defence against this formidable Saints side.
