    Wigan 0-2 St Helens

The bleach blonded Kyle Amor requires three Wigan players to bring him down but not before he's made nearly 10 metres.

St Helens carry on their drive and Jack Welsby and Regan Grace force Wigan into conceding a goal-line drop-out.

This is still a remarkable game with both sides barely giving an inch.

    Wigan 0-2 St Helens

Jackson Hastings is down and in some discomfort as play is halted.

The Wigan half-back goes in for the tackle on St Helens' Kevin Naiqama and gets a stray boot in the face.

Some claret drips down the Australian's head but he'll be okay to continue by the looks of things.

The first half was one of the best 40 minutes of Super League Grand Final history.

It just goes to show that you don't need tries a plenty to make it an exciting rugby league game. You just need two highly committed, highly skilled and hard working teams to go at it with hammer and tongs.

The physicality has been brutal, the intensity has been outstanding and the energy levels have been through the roof.

Wigan have started well this half, I'm looking forward to the conclusion.

In a tight game like his Grand Final, that is an opportunity. But all of a sudden Wigan have come to life and have been the better side since half-time.

    Wigan 0-2 St Helens

Deary me. So close to what should have been Wigan's opening try.

Jake Bibby spills the ball in the corner, and in acres of space, just before he has the time to run in.

    A waste.

    Wigan 0-2 St Helens

Lachlan Coote is bundled away as Wigan put the pressure on St Helens with a drive across field and into the corner.

The Warriors force the goal-line drop-out and suddenly it's Wigan in the ascendency.

Tommy Leuluai sends a fine kick in the corner for Wigan which Lachlan Coote allows to run in to touch.

Both sides putting barriers up in the opening stages of the second half.

It's going to take a moment of brilliance to score a try, here.

We are back under way at the KCOM Stadium and here's some food for thought as we get going.

Both Wigan and St Helens have now gone more than 120 minutes without conceding a try.

That is an incredible stat given this level.

On the balance of play in the first 20 minutes you'd have suggested St Helens are worthy of the lead but fair play to Wigan, they came back, lost Joe Burgess, reshuffled, had a fair bit of possession and let's have it right they have been the side nearest to the try.

The intensity produced in that first 40 minutes must be the tightest 40 minutes in a Grand Final.

St Helens have dominated possession, but they have not dominated from a points perspective.

If you're just joining us, don't be put off by the scoreline. It's the lowest scoring first half in a Super League Grand Final, but that doesn't tell the full story.

Lachlan Coote's penalty goal separates these two sides who have pelted each other with everything they've got for 40 minutes.

    It's tense. It's end-to-end. It's a game on a knife edge.

Morgan Smithies concedes a penalty with a reckless off the ball shoulder charge on Lachlan Coote.

St Helens get the first points of the game just before half-time as Coote kicks well.

This game has been outstanding, with defences on top. But the speed around the ruck area has been tremendous. It is a cracking game.

    Wigan 0-0 St Helens

Tommy Leuluai kicks downfield and Lachlan Coote looks a bit sheepish before he successfully picks it up.

Less than two minutes remain. Are we headed for a scoreless game at the break?

  16. Postpublished at 38 mins

    Wigan 0-0 St Helens

Now, casting my mind back, I don't think a Super League Grand Final has ever been 0-0 at half-time.

We're only a few minutes away from history if my mind's not deceiving me!

    Wigan 0-0 St Helens

Blimey. St Helens' wing Regan Grace hesitates receiving a high kick on the turnover from Wigan.

Lachlan Coote opts to go for it at the last minute and knocks on. Wigan's advantage doesn't last long, however, as about 10 seconds later a wayward pass ends up with Saints regaining possession as Kevin Naiqama scoops up a loose ball.

    Deary me.

Joe Burgess has passed his head injury assessment and is waiting for his return to the field for Wigan.

    Good news for the Warriors.

  19. 'There's a little change in momentum'published at 20:41 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2020

    Wigan 0-0 St Helens

    John Kear
Wales & Bradford Bulls coach on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

I'm sensing that the game has swung a little towards Wigan.

St Helens certainly dominated the first quarter but there's just been a little momentum change towards the Cherry and White and all credit to them for hanging in there.

    Wigan 0-0 St Helens

St Helens push Wigan back for the first time in a short while and Theo Fages manages to kick the ball to himself as he races to the line.

Jackson Hastings manages to win the ball back on the turnover and eventually Zak Hardaker races Wigan back to halfway.

This game is all over the place. Two supremely good offensive sides hammering each other. Some outstanding rugby being played, here.
