Sacreu bleu! Mon dieu! Oh la la! A dramatic score and the French are on their feet. Gael Fickou crosses the line and scores underneath the posts. Canny by the 19-year-old replacement Maxime Machenaud converts and the hosts just need to hold on for two minutes.
Nigel Owens blows his whistle, however, which is one way to stop Mako Vunipola in full flow. Les Bleus, though lacking zip, a certain joie de vivre you could say. But they have advantage and are at least retaining possession.
What have France got left? Can they produce a stirring finale? They're lacking imagination and are so flat-footed and sluggish in possession that England steal possession with ease, setting Mako Vunipola on his way to punch through the midfield.

"Perfect response to that French penalty by England, increasing the tempo and testing that French defensive line. The French were forced to give away that offside and penalty."
"Stop looking for penalties," barks Nigel Owens. But he points in England's direction as France are caught offside. Owen Farrell is receiving treatment for a dead leg which means responsibility will fall on Alex Goode's shoulders. Whistles, jeers, and hisses ripple around the stadium but he blocks it all out and adds the three points.

"It is now a question of nerve. Who blinks first? Who makes that important mistake? I do feel it will come down to that."
Andrew Jarman-Norris:, external Come on England...
Nick Cox:, external Great intensity from the teams.
Rugby Lad:, external The rhythm has gone out of the performance now. We don't need the French getting confident again - they were shot 10 minutes ago...

"England have put themselves under pressure, conceding a penalty. Now that lead's cut, and they want to be playing down in the French half where they have caused so many problems for them in this second half."
England's scrum backpedalling and Nigel Owens has little option but to award France an easy kick at goal from in front of the posts. Maxime Machenaud boots it over and there's no way of predicting how this story will end.
Andrew: France have done absolutely nothing in this second half. Every time England give them an opportunity they've blown it and handed the momentum straight back. France in no way, shape or form deserve to get anything from this game.
Jude: England! Appalling 'football hugs' after the Burrell try. And what was with the reserves coming on for hugs? Badly done, England. Badly done.
Courtney Lawes walks off the pitch to make way for Dave Attwood and the England second-rower could be seen wincing and touching his left eye as he departed from the field. Just over 10 minutes remaining and we're in for a nervous end.

"Fifteen minutes left and the key thing is England are five points up. The next score is critical. Three more points [for England] wins the game so they need to put on a drop-goal routine."

"Mike Brown needed to walk away from that confrontation with Huget. Schoolmaster Nigel Owens was right again."
Jack Nowell is surprised that the ball finds its way to him and the winger is unable to keep hold of the ball. Knock on. French scrum but not before Ben Morgan and Brad Barritt come on, the latter replacing Jack Nowell.
England's Ben Foden:, external England seemed to have just gone up a gear! Showing awesome character after a shaky start! So happy for the big man Luther Burrell!
Temperatures rising on the pitch as red mist descends over Mike Brown and Yoann Huget. The pair locking horns on the touchline like a pair of raging bulls. All Nigel Owens has to say is: "You're both acting very immature." Brian Moore chortles.
Both sets of forwards roaring as they attempt to outdo each other in the scrum. France snapping and snipping but it's a bone-crunching tackle by Courtney Lawes on Jean-Marc Doussain. Bang! By the way, Lee Dickson has replaced Danny Care. An influential 60 minutes by the England scrum-half.
Fine play by Owen Farrell who beats the French defence with a dummy. France, however, nick possession and Yoann Huget goes pumping and snorting down the wing, but his foot grazes the touchline.

"This is frenetic, isn't it? I can't remember an England game that's been as loose and open as this. The speed of England's play has been impressive but the French still look so dangerous when they turn the ball over."
