Despite witnessing their team squander a 13-point advantage, the Parisians are still attempting to galvanise their countrymen with a chorus of "allez Les Bleus". The French have 20 minutes to come up with a cunning plan which will see off this England revival.

"Brilliant decision from Care. He took no risks, he came out of the back of the ruck, turned around and slotted the drop goal between the posts. England are on top because their speed of ball is killing France."

"We're seeing some intelligent play from England and it is not good enough for France to plod around now. The crowd has gone quiet."

  5. DROP-GOAL (Care)published at 18:22 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2014

England keeping hold of the ball and debutant Jack Nowell steps up the pace with a short burst through a tackle or two. The visitors bossing the breakdown, retaining possession, controlling the match, and the alert Danny Care seizes his chance to knock over a drop-goal.

Owen Farrell, attempting to control the tempo, temporarily stops the game being played to the beat of a runaway train with a well-placed kick over the French defence which finds touch.

A frenzied passage of play with the pendulum swinging this way and that. Danny Care turns on the accelerator in a chase downfield but, despite the sound of seats flipping up, the move comes to nothing. France are stirred, they want their lead back, but England have confidence oozing through their veins.

The French are bruised and they're intent on revenge. Wesley Fofana goes ever so close to a third try but excellent crisis management by England and Mike Brown steals possession.

"That came as a result of the power of Vunipola. Now it is the French who are under the cosh. If England can keep moving them around then they could well run out of steam."

"That will take some beating for the best try around! Excellent by Farrell, who delayed his pass then gave the ball to Vunipola behind their backs. Excellent support play by Burrell and a really, really classy try by England.

"It was a sublime bit of play to start it off by Farrell - if Dan Carter had done that we'd all be raving about it."

  11. TRY (Burrell; conv Farrell)published at 18:12 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2014

Excellent supporting by Luther Burrell but it is a barnstorming run through the middle by Billy Vunipola which did the damage after the number eight was let loose following a neat dummy by Owen Farrell. Cue wild celebrations. Cue a Farrell conversion.

Philippe Saint-Andre motionless as he gazes ahead towards the pitch. It's possibly a cardboard cut out of the France head coach, I guess. Ah, no, hang on, he moves.

France rocking. France creaking. Quick turn over ball for England and the lively Danny Care sprints over the gainline. Momentum is with the visitors but now it's England's turn to lose possession and Nigel Owens sticks out his arm in the direction of the French players. Jules Plisson with the pressure-relieving touch finder.

  14. PENALTY (Farrell)published at 18:06 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2014

England were not awarded the try but the resultant penalty allows the sharp-shooting Owen Farrell to drag his side right back into what some would call the mixer.

"A French hand blocked the tiny tip of the ball that might have been over the line. Care's short, but that was much better play from England. They are getting really fast ball so defenders cannot do much."

"At first glance I couldn't see whether he got the ball down. Seeing it again, it looked slightly short for me."

  17. NO TRYpublished at 18:04 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2014

Danny Care spins out of Benjamin Kayser's tackle but referee Nigel Owens checks whether the scrum-half placed the ball over the line. It's touch and go. Owens places his hand on his chin like an old professor musing over a difficult conundrum about equilateral triangles. "There's nothing clear and obvious go back for the penalty," says the voice in Owens' ear.

  18. Postpublished at 18:03 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2014

Chatter from both sets of players with the scrum-halves barking orders. Mike Brown finds the gap, beating the first defender, and that sets England on their way. To the right they go... a shuffle of the hips from Alex Goode... England closing in on the whitewash...

  19. Postpublished at 18:02 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2014

Owen Farrell gets the second half under way and Louis Picamoles is standing inside his own 22 waiting for the ball to come his way, which it does. No drama to report there. Let's move on.
