Former Scotland full-back on BBC Radio 5 live

"I just hope Scotland really enter the fray today, with a build-up in confidence gained from that win in Rome two weeks ago. And France aren't a team - they're a group of individuals.

"France always look to dominate sides in the scrum, and with this pitch prone to breaking up under a scrum the Scottish front row will be put under an awful lot of pressure today."

The pitch looks patchier than a Scottish grouse moor. Scotland drop the kick-off, they collapse at the resulting scrum and France will have a shot at goal.

Rugby's version of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton would appear to be Scotland captain Kelly Brown and coach Scott Johnson.

The latter dropped the former after their first match of the tournament, only to recall him today, two games later.

"It is good to hear the players speaking the way they are because the Scotland players should be playing with confidence. If they have a good start and get France on the back foot then France are there for the taking."

France head coach Philippe Saint-Andre: "I hope for a huge reaction, we performed very badly against Wales, we have made some changes but against Scotland we know it will be a tough test.

"We need to be focused on our performance, have discipline and perform our best. This is a young team and we need to play rugby, play positively and be clinical also because we were not at all clinical against Wales."

Scotland may have beaten France only once this millennium, but the French ended up with the Wooden Spoon last year and have been nearly as bad this year.

They go into the game on the back of a comprehensive defeat by Wales, while Scotland edged past Italy in Rome.

Man of the Match Brian O'Driscoll after playing his final Test at the Aviva Stadium: "I haven't really let myself think about it, you know? It is emotional. It has been a huge part of my whole adult life and to leave here is going to be hard. But it is a good way to leave and sets it up nicely for next week.

"I feel humbled by the reaction today. I have loved my time playing in this jersey, it has to come to an end at some stage and I am happy to go out with a big win.

"It will only properly set in I think when I have had a bit of time. We need to go to France with big positivity and try and relive what happened in 2000. It is one thing playing in this jersey but it is another thing altogether winning in this jersey."

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Former Ireland hooker Denis McBride on 5 live Sport: "It's been everything that everybody wanted this afternoon from Ireland. Italy got very tired and they couldn't keep defending with intensity, and Ireland really capitalised, upping their levels in the second half - and they have taken all their chances when they've got within five metres of the line.

"This was disappointing in the end from Italy, a side who before this game gave France some problems. But Ireland dominated in every phase of the game. Creditable performances all round, but for me the stand out for his three magnificent moments of brilliance was Brian O'Driscoll. Other players just don't have his gifts."
