Monstrous play from Mathieu Bastareaud as the giant centre halts a threatening attack with a turnover five metres from his own line. France clear and when Stuart Hogg's long-range drop-goal drifts wide Brice Dulin counters from his own line - although his adventure comes to nothing as France knock-on on halfway.

"The one facet of the game that Scotland are clearly dominating is the kicking game. I don't think there is any structure to the French kicking game and the chase is poor."

Players look as unsteady on their feet as Jennifer Lawrence at the Oscars - Alex Dunbar tries to go on the attack but hits the deck as the muddy pitch again takes its toll.

Meanwhile, France lose their second line-out in quick succession, a cardinal sin in Test rugby because it kills your momentum.

Scotland have lost big winger Sean Lamont to injury, with the more diminutive Max Evans - who plays in France for Castres - coming on to replace him.

France fly-half Jules Plisson is aimlessly hoofing the ball downfield and by the disapproving whistles from the French fans, you'd think the match was in Paris.

    Ben Dirs
    BBC Sport at Murrayfield

"An absolute peach of a try from Scotland, straight from the training ground. That's their first at home for four matches and there is a definite belief around Murrayfield now. This make-shift France outfit are looking exactly that after a strong start."

"That is a very well worked try. Superb play with the inside pass - that is something will have worked on in training. It was a great finish, although I think there was a block on Jules Plisson. That should have gone to the Television Match Official."

Former Lions coach and BBC Sport expert

"It is interesting at the moment watching the referee, a New Zealander, not wanting the scrums to be messed around. He is looking for the clear ball and the momentum that an attacking side needs. It is quite interesting looking at his interpretation of play, particularly at the breakdowns."

"If any other team in the Six Nations had scored that try we'd be saying it was brilliant - so with Scotland it's even better than brilliant. It was players doing what's expected of them. There was such pace and depth from Scotland, total rugby for that try."

That's a cracking score at first glance - albeit with a touch of luck on closer inspection.

When Scotland go wide Alex Dunbar's illegal block on Jules Plisson opens up a gap and Matt Scott's crisp inside pass sets up Tommy Seymour to scoot over in the corner. Greig Laidlaw converts and the hosts are back in front.

  12. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 17:25 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2014

Bad news for Scotland as blind-side flanker Johnnie Beattie is taken off on a stretcher - Ryan Wilson comes on as replacement.

The visitors get to wear their normal kit in rugby union, with the hosts donning their change strip.

    Jonathan Davies

"I think the one pleasing aspect for Scotland will be the penetration of the French ball carriers. That has been their problem throughout the tournament. They are not going forward, they are going wide and that is making it easier for the Scotland defence to soak the attacks up."

  15. PENALTY (Machenaud)published at 17:21 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2014

France back on the attack, with Maxime Mermoz tackled just short. The French look to bully their way over, Scotland fall offside and Maxime Machenaud will again go for goal - to good effect.

"Scotland have got themselves back into this game with a try, which is just so important. And I didn't need 20 replays to decide that was try, I knew it was after two!"

Have Scotland scored a try? Stuart Hogg hoofs ahead with an advantage to be played and Yoann Huget fails to take the ball. Hogg follows up to touch down, but did Huget just get his fingertips to it? No, says the TMO... and the conversion puts Scotland ahead.

    Gavin Hastings
Former Scotland full-back on BBC Radio 5 live

"What power France have! They got their ball in the own 22 but, using acres of room, they showed great passing and sleight of hand on the counter. Scotland needed to deploy absolutely desperate defence and ended up conceding that penalty.

"Scotland now find themselves six points behind and they really need to hold onto the ball a wee bit longer, go through phases of play and don't just kick away possession."

    Chris Paterson
Former Scotland full-back on BBC One

"Exactly the start the French would have wanted under pressure. They have taken a lot of criticism in the last couple of weeks and 6-0 up is exactly what they will have been looking for."

  20. PENALTY (Machenaud)published at 17:14 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2014

Brilliant from France. When Scotland knock on a couple of passes free winger Yoann Huget and he powers down the line before feeding inside to Maxime Mermoz. The centre is hauled down just short and France sweep the ball into midfield, where the hulking Mathieu Bastareaud bulldozes his way to within a couple of metres.

He is eventually brought down by a pride of Scottish defenders but the hosts infringe and Maxime Machenaud extends the French lead.
