Thomas Domingo is penalised at the scrum. "That's three times," referee Steve Walsh tells Pascal Pape, warning the captain that the next transgression could be a yellow card. From defence to attack - Ireland with a line-out a smidgeon outside the French 22.

Blood seeping from Paul O'Connel's ear, such is the danger of being in the boiler room. It seems this tournament will go out in a blaze of glory, but will Brian O'Driscoll? Tense stuff. France have earned themselves a scrum in the Ireland half after the Irish are punished for a series of knock-ons.

Jack Morel-Paulo:, external They wouldn't be France if they didn't defy all possible expectations - Huget is having a great tournament.

Nick van Staveren:, external Lovely little bit of play there by France to get the score, very well worked move.

Nicolas Mas finds himself underneath a body of players and injures his elbow in the process. That's a premature end to the prop's day and he's replaced by Rabah Slimani, who was sent off in a late dust-up against Italy earlier in the tournament.

Momentum flowing France's way, Remi Tales takes a few steps back and attempt a drop-goal but he misses and the outside-half turns away sucking in the cheeks.

"How crucial will that missed conversion by Jonny Sexton prove to be? Still plenty to play for but I'm hoping he won't be ruing that when the game enters the final minute."

"There was organisation in that French try and evidence that they have brought something to the party. The threat was that Ireland were going to grab momentum but now the game is on a knife-edge."

I'm not sure whether I should repeat this but Brian O'Driscoll makes a hash of a pass to Andrew Trimble. I know. It matters little, though, as Ireland recycle and the centre, unfazed, responds with a deft inside pass. An up-and-under from Ireland and that proves to be the wrong tactic. Possession France.

"Fantastic bit of skill for that try. It was a beautifully weighted cross-kick as well, right into the corner, Brice Dulin didn't have to break stride and that just gave him the edge. A beautifully executed move overall."

  10. TRYpublished at 17:35 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2014

France are so close they can smell the whitewash but Remi Tales switches play with a well-placed diagonal kick for Yoann Huget out on the wing. The winger taps back to the oncoming Brice Dulin, who dives over in the corner. But is it a try? Referee Steve Walsh is told he can award the try and that is what he does. A tricky touchline conversion for Maxime Machenaud - and he succeeds! What a game.

"Allez les bleus," sing the French crowd, attempting to pump their players full of adrenaline after conceding two tries in quick succession. It's a French line-out in the Ireland 22... the hosts gather.. forward they go... huffing and puffing...

"It has been a fantastic game so far. Both sides have come out to play and it is a fitting finale for what has been a fantastic Six Nations. A lot of rugby still to be played and I am looking forward to seeing what happens next."

  13. TRYpublished at 17:30 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2014

Brian O'Driscoll sets his backline rolling by thundering over the gainline. Conor Murray carries on O'Driscoll's good work, bursting through and releases Andrew Trimble who canters over for a simple touchdown. Jonny Sexton makes sure of the two points with an easy conversion.

Louis Picamoles seems to have gathered an Irish kick but, somehow, it slips through his hands when he is about to pass to a team-mate. A silly error which sparks some sarcastic jeers.

  15. TRYpublished at 17:25 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2014

France must defend wave after wave of green assaults but they eventually fold. A beautiful offload from Chris Henry from the back of his hand and Jonny Sexton dashes over the tryline on an angle from 5m. Cue wild celebrations but the outside-half uncharacteristically fails with what was a simple conversion.

Referee Steve Walsh loses patience and blows up in Ireland's favour, which allows Jonny Sexton to boot his team into the French 22. A honeyed platform for Conor Murray who makes inroads... Promising for Ireland, very promising.

"France are good for this lead. Their defence has been good, their breakdown has been good. This is the exact start, save for a breakaway try, they would have wanted. Ireland are chasing the game."

    Phillip Matthews

"The way back into this game for Ireland - early days as it is - is set pieces. They're playing into French hands, playing a lot of rugby in their own half and not making a lot of ground for it."

The camera focuses once more on Brian O'Driscoll, there'll be quite a bit of that this evening you sense. But even a great like O'Driscoll can do nothing to stop the scrum collapsing. A breather for the backs as the forwards attempt to master the scrum.

  20. Postpublished at 17:21 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2014

Referee Steve Walsh is groaning as if he's been hit by shrapnel, but apparently he is fine to carry on. "Brave man," says Brian Moore somewhat sarcastically.
