"Northampton must not panic now. They just need to keep playing, don't force things and then make mistakes. There's plenty of time left."

  9. HALF-TIMEpublished at 17:13 British Summer Time 31 May 2014

And there goes the whistle. The two sides are still level but, with Northampton having scored two tries to Saracens' one, Saints will be very slight favourites going into the final 10 minutes.

Alex Goode gathers a long kick forward and counter-attacks for Saracens. He's had a really solid game this afternoon, the England full-back. We're ticking towards the end of the opening period of extra-time.

Gareth in Watford via text: "Extra-time is literally the worst-case scenario for Stuart Lancaster. All his England players are going to be mentally and emotionally shattered by the time they get on the plane to NZ. He has already possibly lost his first-choice fly-half Owen Farrell to a ridiculous self-induced injury too. Now there is further risk of more players getting injured. Still- great match though!"

Saracens on the attack now and have found a way through, only for Jackson Wray to be held up just short of the line. JP Doyle heads to the TMO, however, and as it happens Sarries have been penalised for an earlier infringement so it wouldn't have counted anyway.

  13. PENALTY - Hodgsonpublished at 17:06 British Summer Time 31 May 2014

Hodgson lands the kick and we're all square again. To remind you, he came on for Owen Farrell after the England fly-half injured himself celebrating a try that didn't even count. Really!

Here's a scrum then, and it'll be a penalty for Saracens, who've had the edge at scrum-time throughout this final. Chance for Charlie Hodgson this time...

  17. Postpublished at 17:02 British Summer Time 31 May 2014

First chance in extra-time goes Northampton's way, after Saracens fail to release at the breakdown. This is within Stephen Myler's range, I'd say...

  18. KICK-OFFpublished at 16:59 British Summer Time 31 May 2014

  19. Postpublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 31 May 2014

BBC Sport's Nabil Hassan at Twickenham: "A lick of paint was the difference between victory for Saracens and defeat for Northampton but in the end there is nothing to choose between these teams as the game heads into extra-time for the first time in Premiership history. A fitting way to end what has been a quite brilliant season."

Well, this is all a bit new! So, we now have 20 minutes of extra-time, 10 minutes per half. If the scores are level after all of that, the team with the most tries in the match will win. Currently, that's Northampton. You still with me? Good, let's do this...
