  1. Club-by-club review: Saracenspublished at 14:36 British Summer Time 31 May 2014

BBC London 94.9's Sara Orchard: "With a first Heineken Cup final and another Premiership final, Saracens have plenty to be proud of.

"They proved they could score tries, as well as defend, with wings David Strettle and Chris Ashton racking up 19 scores between them.

"Sarries' record Premiership points tally of 87 speaks volumes for their ruthless approach to the game. With Steve Borthwick's retirement set for this evening, to finish with no trophies would be a cruel end to a courageous career after what has been a remarkable season."

  2. Club-by-club review: Northampton Saintspublished at 14:32 British Summer Time 31 May 2014

BBC Sport's Chris Osborne: "Quite obviously, an assessment of Northampton's season hinges largely on what happens today. Yes, last week's Amlin Challenge Cup success was important and at least got the monkey off the back of four consecutive defeats in finals.

"But it was the dramatic Premiership semi-final win over Leicester that suggested Jim Mallinder's side may just have matured somewhat. It will count for nothing though if they don't go one step further than 12 months ago and win at Twickenham. Only when Saints finally win a Premiership title can we really say they've arrived."

Leicester wing Niki Goneva topped the Premiership's try-scoring charts with 12. Saracens' David Strettle was second with 11.

  4. Club-by-club review: Leicester Tigerspublished at 14:27 British Summer Time 31 May 2014

BBC Radio Leicester's Martin Ballard: "For the first time in a decade Leicester Tigers failed to make the Premiership final at Twickenham.

"The record books will say this was a disappointing season but what they won't show is how challenging it has been for the new coaching team of Paul Burke, Richard Blaze and Geordan Murphy.

"If the motivation of a trophyless season wasn't enough to get them fired up for next season, falling to local rivals Northampton Saints in the Premiership semi-finals at Franklin's Gardens certainly will."

Harlequins number eight Nick Easter completed the most offloads in the Premiership with 40, which is 16 more than anyone else managed. His team-mate Dave Ward won the most turnovers (27).

  6. Club-by-club review: Harlequinspublished at 14:25 British Summer Time 31 May 2014

BBC London 94.9's Sara Orchard: "After finding their rhythm, Quins' first XV continued to compete with the best in the Premiership. However, injuries, international call-ups and a lack of squad depth often impacted.

"When Mike Brown, Nick Evans, Danny Care, Nick Easter, Chris Robshaw and Joe Marler were all available, few could stop Harlequins. But, after three consecutive seasons with trophies, 2014 sees the Londoners finish empty handed.

"Luckily, England full-back Brown has picked up enough awards on the international and domestic front to keep the trophy cabinet brimming."

George Ford topped the point-scorers charts for Bath with 250. The 21-year-old fly-half, son of head coach Mike Ford, scored the West Country club's last 37 points of the Premiership campaign, across three matches.

  9. Club-by-club review: Bathpublished at 14:20 British Summer Time 31 May 2014

BBC Radio Bristol's Tom Bradshaw: "Another season gone, and still no return on his investment for owner Bruce Craig. But it's been a year of solid improvement for Bath - a European final and a last-day tussle for the play-offs shows a move in the right direction.

"And there's more to come. This side, particularly the backline, is young and sparky."

  10. Club-by-club review: Sale Sharkspublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 31 May 2014

BBC Radio Manchester's Nathan Middleton: "After a season battling relegation, this was a complete turnaround for the Premiership's surprise package.

"Sale flirted with a top-four place in the closing months after seven league wins from eight to start 2014, but securing a European Champions Cup place led by Dan Braid and orchestrated by Danny Cipriani was real progression."

  11. Club-by-club review: London Waspspublished at 14:16 British Summer Time 31 May 2014

BBC Sport's Chris Osborne: "It was meant to be a season of progress for Wasps - with a new-look, younger squad at Dai Young's disposal - and in many ways it was. The emergence of Fijian Nathan Hughes has been an exciting addition, with talk of England honours in the future once he qualifies through residency in 2016.

"But actually, the news in April that next season's Heineken Cup replacement will feature an extra English or French team, turned out to be the making of Wasps' campaign. A superb play-off victory against Stade Francais later and the High Wycombe-based outfit were booking themselves a seat at Europe's top table - probably a little earlier than anyone had expected."

  12. Club-by-club review: Exeter Chiefspublished at 14:14 British Summer Time 31 May 2014

BBC Sport's Brent Pilnick: "Exeter's LV= Cup final win over Northampton masked what was a disappointing season for Rob Baxter's side.

"A run of just three wins from Christmas to the end of the season saw them miss out on top-flight European rugby for the first time in three years. But the emergence of Jack Nowell, Dave Ewers and Luke Cowan-Dickie means there is promise for next term."

  13. Club-by-club review: Gloucesterpublished at 14:10 British Summer Time 31 May 2014

BBC Radio Gloucestershire's Andrew Pugh: "Predicted to make the play-offs, Gloucester frustrated and disappointed in finishing ninth. Poor discipline, a leaky defence, naive decision-making, and a dominated scrum were key factors, leaving talented backs often under-employed.

"Earlier this month, director of rugby Nigel Davies was sacked - despite making some significant signings for 2014-15."

  14. Club-by-club review: London Irishpublished at 14:06 British Summer Time 31 May 2014

BBC Radio Berkshire's Chris Egerton: "With a host of players plucked by their rivals 12 months ago, Irish could easily have been relegated as they prepared to say goodbye to their current Sunbury training base.

"But the smallest Premiership squad were comfortably better than Newcastle and Worcester in quality and, while James O'Connor's signing caught the eye, Eamonn Sheridan was the real find at centre.

"A takeover, new training facilities, Nick Kennedy's return as academy director and significant investment in the pack means they can compete on more equal terms next season. However, Quins-bound winger Marland Yarde will be a loss."

Despite playing in a relegated team, Worcester's Chris Pennell registered more carries (273), made more metres (1,708) and beat more defenders (69) than any other player in the Premiership this season.

  16. Club-by-club review: Newcastle Falconspublished at 14:01 British Summer Time 31 May 2014

BBC Newcastle's Ian Smith: "A very difficult first season, with the Falcons losing their last 15 Premiership games in a row, including one to relegated side Worcester.

"There needs to be a substantial improvement next season. On the positive side, the academy is producing the goods and in Scott Wilson and George McGuigan they have two young gems."

  17. Club-by-club review: Worcester Warriorspublished at 13:58 British Summer Time 31 May 2014

BBC Hereford & Worcester's Dave Bradley: "It was never going to be easy for Dean Ryan. He inherited a squad that, for the most part, he had not put together. And it took him a long time to find out who his best players were, and which players wanted to play for him.

"Lack of a consistent kicker cost them dearly - Ignacio Mieres flattered to deceive and Ryan Lamb arrived too late to turn the tide and save them from relegation.

"The Championship will not be easy."
