Have I mentioned that Gloucester have been wasteful?

They're at it again. They have a line-out right by the Sarries try-line and it ends up in the hands of a visiting player. The crowd are getting a little bit miffed now.

  2. Penalty (Goode)published at 20:13 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2015

Nicely taken penalty this one from Alex Goode. The wind knocks the ball off the tee, so Kelly Brown has to get on his belly and stick a finger on top of it.

It means Goode has to rush, but doesn't panic and puts it through the sticks.

Billy Twelvetrees, who is not pulling up any trees tonight, has his kick charged down. Rough 25 minutes for the England centre.

Saracens don't manage to profit though.

Finally Saracens see a bit of the ball, and go through 12 phases don't you know.

Gloucester infringe at the breakdown and Alex Goode does his bit with the boot. Two from two for the versatile back - who needs Owen Farrell?

  5. Penalty (Hook)published at 20:06 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2015

Despite their profligacy, Gloucester get another go from the tee and James Hook, who was on the rampage a few moments ago, snaffles his second three-pointer within a couple of minutes.

Gloucester are turning the pressure cooker up to whatever the highest setting is on a pressure cooker.

Saracens are chasing shadows as waves of Gloucester attacks come. But the visitors are just - just - about surviving.

    Tom Bradshaw
    BBC Sport at Kingsholm

"There are those who aren't persuaded of the wisdom of playing Charlie Sharples at full-back - former Kingsholm back James Simpson-Daniel included. But Sharples, normally a winger, is looking Gloucester's sharpest weapon at the moment, cutting some nice lines from deep."

  8. Penalty (Hook)published at 20:02 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2015

After all the head scratching over how Gloucester did not score, the home side have a penalty. James Hook nails it. Should have been at least five points though, not three.

"There was an exasperated gasp from the Kingsholm faithful when that missed chance came up on the big screens..."

Oh Billy Billy Billy. Saracens mess up a clearance and Billy Twelvetrees just needs to slip in Jonny May for a certain try. But the England centre dawdles and is caught by Richard Wigglesworth.

Just struggling to find a rhythm are Gloucester. Line-out goes long, and when Charlie Sharples makes some yards the ball squirms out of play. Frustrating.

Gloucester are responding. Ben Ransom is caught in possession by David Halaifonua and gives away the penalty. Home side's turn to go to the corner.

Andrew Priestley:, external Gloucester promised much at the start of the season with the signing of Afoa and Hibbard, but they just haven't delivered so far. #bbcrugby

Saracens get another bite at a line-out and this time work the catch and drive. They get all the way to the line, but don't touch it down. Referee JP Doyle reckons Gloucester have held it up though and awards the penalty try.

Alex Goode puts his first attempt at goal between the posts for the extras.

  15. Postpublished at 19:52 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2015

Gloucester a little too keen at the breakdown, and Saracens stick a penalty out for an attacking line-out. A chance to work an opening for the visitors.

A bright start this from the home side. They're finding a bit of space, but Saracens win the first scrum of the night.

  17. Postpublished at 19:48 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2015

Billy Twelvetrees puts a lovely kick into the corner and Saracens are dealt an early line-out deep in their own territory.

    Chris Jones
BBC Radio 5 live reporter at Kingsholm

"Despite taking part in the warm-up, Gloucester scrum-half Greig Laidlaw has just pulled out because of the virus which has already struck down Tom Palmer. Dan Robson therefore gets a rare start at number nine - in the week his move to Wasps at the end of the season was confirmed."

  19. Kick-offpublished at 19:47 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2015
