Wales head coach Warren Gatland on BBC One: "Cutting loose depends on the scoreboard. We spoke before about to give ourselves a chance of winning the Championship we have got to win by 40 points - anything more will be a bonus.

"We've told the players to be patient, don't force things too early too quickly, don't panic. If we can break Italy's spirit then maybe we can open them up in second half.

"It has not been hard to reinvigorate the players after the Ireland match. We have had a fantastic week. There is an air of expectancy, a nervousness that we have not had before against Italy.

"We know how important today is."

"Losing captain Sergio Parisse is a huge blow for Italy, and not only in terms of his ball-carrying ability. He also has that ability to analyse the game and he will be sorely missed."

Now for Warren Gatland's title-chasing hopefuls. And it is all change in the front row as novice props Aaron Jarvis and Rob Evans step in for Samson Lee and Gethin Jenkins.

Liam Williams, a bit of a throwback to the 70s glory days with his lithe frame and free running, continues on the wing.

    Hosts first.

And Italy are without talisman, captain and all-round totem Sergio Parisse. He is missing with a foot injury.

Salty old dogs Martin Castrogiovanni and Mauro Bergamasco are recalled in the forwards however, and the chunky Kelly Haimona is back to fill the troublesome fly-half slot.

    Italy: 15-Luke McLean, 14-Leonardo Sarto, 13-Luca Morisi, 12-Andrea Masi, 11-Giovanbattista Venditti, 10-Kelly Haimona, 9-Edoardo Gori; 1-Michele Rizzo, 2-Leonardo Ghiraldini (capt), 3-Martin Castrogiovanni, 4-George Biagi, 5-Joshua Furno, 6-Francesco Minto, 7-Mauro Bergamasco, 8-Samuela Vunisa

For a brief time this week it seemed we might get a sight of the shaggy head of Adam Jones packing down for Wales again.

But then a hefty dollop of ego got involved.

The prop, 34, had retired from international rugby after being left out of the Six Nations squad.

Coach Warren Gatland said that he would not go "on bended knee" to ask the 95-cap veteran to reconsider.

Jones said it was "up to other people" to open the door to his international comeback.

Needless to say he is not part of the matchday squad in Rome. Let's see who is...

France win the 2007 Six NationsImage source, PA

If the winners prove to be somewhere other than Twickenham, perhaps we will get a repeat of the sartorial scenes of 2007.

Having just about done enough to top Ireland's points difference with a win over Scotland in the second match of the day, France had to wait to see if they were to be overhauled by England who played Wales later.

They spent the time wisely - getting spruced, suited and booted in time to be presented the trophy in front of deserted Stade de France.

    Surreal.

BBC Wales Sport's Richard Williams in Rome: "OK, a quick and strictly unscientific straw poll of former internationals at the Stadio Olimpico.

"The question is: Who do you think will win the Six Nations?

Former Wales flanker and captain Gwyn Jones: "If Wales get off to a flyer they could do it, but I think England will win the tournament."

Former Wales and Lions wing Dafydd James: "France are not good enough to stop England winning the title."

Former Wales and Lions scrum-half Gareth Edwards: "England have to be favourites, their points difference is so big."

Former Wales flanker Dafydd Jones: "I don't want to say it, but it looks like England."

"The one dissenting voice belongs to former back-row forward Emyr Lewis: 'Ireland!'"

Come on lads, that's not the spirit.

Wales coach Warren Gatland has had his say on who he thinks are favourites to lift the Six Nations trophy.

"England are definitely going to know what they need to do to win the Championship, so that puts them in the box seat," he said.

"But it's not going to be easy if you need 15 or 20 points to have to beat France by, and they are a tough team to put away."

How much of an advantage is it for England to go last today? Going into the last 10 minutes of their match against France and knowing whether they need to go for the posts or the corner with a late penalty could prove controversial in the post-mortem.

Mind you I imagine that television demands might have played a part so maybe I'll stay quiet.
