That sounds like a fairly damning assessment from Graeme, but do you agree with him?

Although that just about concludes our coverage of today's Champions Cup action, please do join us again from 12:00 BST tomorrow to see if Saracens and Wasps are able to manage a little better than Bath and Northampton Saints did this afternoon.

Until then, it's goodnight from us.

In the day's first quarter-final, Leinster took advantage of an ill-disciplined first-half performance from Bath to book their spot in the last four.

Ian Madigan kicked all 18 of the Irish side's points to send them into the last four, with George Ford and Stuart Hooper scoring a couple of tries for the Blue, Black and Whites.

And, as you've been reading, Northampton Saints were humbled by a brilliant Clermont Auvergne in our second match.

The Top 14 team are now 23 home games unbeaten in Europe - and, as Dylan Hartley just suggested, it's hard to see who can stop them.

Northampton Saints captain Dylan Hartley tells Sky Sports: "I think they go to a different level when they play here. Nobody is invincible but after today they'll take some stopping after that."

Northampton Saints captain Dylan Hartley tells Sky Sports: "We got caught cold. We made error after error after error, and if you give them an inch they take a mile. All we can do now is focus on the Premiership. That was some lesson we learnt there today."

So what to make of all of that? Were Northampton Saints really that bad or Clermont Auvergne just spectacularly good?

Clermont forward Benjamin Kayser tells Sky Sports: "The club has been doing great for the last few years, targeting some great players. And players like Jonathan Davies and Nick Abendanon, everyone knows they're great players, but they've applied themselves properly here."

Clermont forward Benjamin Kayser tells Sky Sports: "We've had some good games, but when you put your heart into it and prepare properly - everything came together for us in the first half. It was a great performance and we're very pleased to be in the semi-finals."

In a word, no. The move breaks down, the clock goes red and Clermont hack the ball out of play to put Northampton Saints out of their misery.

But at last it's out and Northampton are on the attack. Is there one final flourish for Saints?

  12. Postpublished at 19:29 British Summer Time 4 April 2015

This quarter-final is beginning to peter out here, a couple of collapsed scrums guilty for that. Less than two minutes to go.

  13. Postpublished at 19:28 British Summer Time 4 April 2015

The rolling maul appears in good order but then not only is it halted but Clermont have themselves a scrum too.

Meanwhile, Nick Abendanon is announced as man of the match over the tannoy - or homme du match, as appears on the television screen - to large cheers around the stadium. There were a few contenders, but it's hard to argue with that choice.

Are we playing with a rugby ball or a bar of soap? A few handling errors are starting to creep in now, understandable given the increasingly wet surface, but Saints win a penalty and head for touch. Can they restore a bit more pride?

So, we're into the final 10 minutes between Clermont Auvergne and Northampton Saints. The rain is absolutely pounding down and the conditions look rotten - but the English side have certainly shown plenty of fight in this last little period.

  17. Trypublished at 19:18 British Summer Time 4 April 2015

The try will count - but the television match official is not interested in Alex Waller's reaction, much to the displeasure of the Clermont supporters. Stephen Myler's miserable afternoon from the tee continues though, missing the conversion. Northampton are, at least, on the board at long last.

  18. Try reviewpublished at 19:17 British Summer Time 4 April 2015

Alex Waller looks like he has scored for Northampton this time. And what's happened here? It looks like he's thrown a punch at Clermont replacement John Ulugia, who has tried to prevent him from touching down! Plenty for the television match official to look at...

How have Northampton Saints not scored there? With a man advantage, the overlap is on down the right and the Premiership side work the ball well to Christian Day. But Nick Abendanon - yes, him again - has absolutely flattened the 31-year-old with the line at his mercy.

  20. Postpublished at 19:12 British Summer Time 4 April 2015

The home side keep the ball following the line-out but then knock-on, leaving Northampton with a scrum five metres from their own line. Already six minutes have passed since Damien Chouly was sent to the bin - where did that time go?
