And that is that. It was a game which had it all, the hyperbolic build-up, a nervy beginning, one team in the ascendancy, dramatic injuries, a rousing comeback and a grandstand finish.

Our chief sports reporter Tom Fordyce was at Twickenham and he describes Wales' victory as a "sensational win in an astonishing World Cup contest". You can read more of Tom's report by clicking here.

Thanks, as always, for joining us. There will be more of the same on Sunday, with Australia starting proceedings against Uruguay. I shall leave you with this picture of Prince Harry and Prince William, which sums up the feelings of both camps this evening.

I don't think I've shown quite as much emotion in 80 minutes as I have today. Today was about courage. There is nobody who knows how hard these players have worked as much as I do. This game was about this team wanting it badly enough and if you want that it can happen for you. As a coach, the way they stuck at the task, I can't ask for any more. We wanted it more in the end.

Former Wales flanker Martyn Williams was part of memorable Wales victories - that rousing comeback in Paris on their way to the 2005 Grand Slam - but this victory at Twickenham tops the lot apparently.

They can't feel sorry for themselves for too long. As sportsmen you dissect everything with honesty. The winning or losing of the game was not that final decision to kick into touch. It was a massive gamble but the game had gone away from England before then because of positive play from Wales, who picked a weakness out wide.

  7. Biggar the record breakerpublished at 22:51

    England 25-28 Wales

Take a bow, Mr Biggar. Many in Wales feared for their team with injury to their usual sharp-shooting marksman Leigh Halfpenny, but Dan Biggar proved to be rock solid from the tee under the most intense pressure.

The Ospreys outside-half scored 23 points in this game, the most by any Wales player in a Rugby World Cup match, overtaking Neil Jenkins’ 22 points against Japan in 1995.

We have to read the ref better. Even if you don't feel you are doing anything wrong, you need to understand the ref. When we are indisciplined at the ruck it gives the chance to score three. I can't put into words how we are feeling. I can't believe we have lost it. It was not a gimme [a potential kick for goal in the 78th minute]. It was five metres from the touchline. We thought we might get a play that would sneak us over but it didn't work. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

England have only got themselves to blame. They had that game under control. Their destiny was in their hands but they gave away cheap points and handed the initiative back to Wales. England created the scenario where a try would win it for Wales.

Wales currently Kings of Pool A, top of the heap, number one, after two victories from their opening two matches. England second, in the final qualifying spot, but Australia have played one game fewer than their rivals.

The Wallabies take on Uruguay on Sunday and you'd expect a bonus-point victory and plenty of tries for the green and golds.

People from outside might not think we have a strong squad but we have such resilience. Everyone trains hard but we have been to some dark places in the summer and we didn't want that to go to waste. We have a difficult turnaround now. We will enjoy this for 24 hours but after that it is heads on.

I thought Wales changed the way they played second half. They didn't want to kick the ball off the field and get involved in line-outs. They got on the front foot. If England had understood the referee a bit better, they could have been 12 points out of sight.
